Bloodsucker Capitalism: How Big Companies Extract Wealth From Everyone Else

Academics tend to use 'Neoliberalism' and economists used to use the phrase 'rentier capitalism', but I don't think either of these conveys the true nature of what's going on to an audience of ordinary people.

Resistance TV is a weekly show on Youtube recorded live on Wednesdays at 7PM.

On Thursday, millions of people in England headed to the polls to select their new local councillors & in one area a new MP. Chris Williamson and Lizzie Fletcher take a look at what happened and where it leaves things.

We also touch on the attacks in Palestine this week.

Natalie Strecker, Israeli Apartheid | Resistance TV

Natalie is a Human Rights activist and campaigner based in the Channel Islands.

Natalie served as a Human Rights Monitor in Hebron, Palestine in 2018 during the period the infamous Golani Brigade were stationed in the Palestinian city.

Following the Labour witchhunt, which targeted a number of leftwing antiracists, including Jews, Natalie referred herself to Labour's Compliance Unit in an attempt to expose the witchhunt for what it is, an action which was soon after supported by Israeli academic, Haim Bresheeth.

Natalie has since left the Labour Party and believes the fight to save our communities and planet resides in grassroots movements.

Natalie is currently fundraising for a theatre production, by Israeli playwright & activist Einat Weizman, which will see a series of plays that will put the Israeli Military Court on trial, with the first focusing on the case of her good friend, Issa Amro, who is a Hebron based award winning and UN formally recognised Human Rights Defender.

The XR activists who took on oil giant Shell – and won

Six Extinction Rebellion activists were acquitted in a landmark verdict at Southwark Crown Court on the 24/4/21

The jury delivered its not guilty verdict for each defendant, despite Judge Perrins ruling that five of the six had no defence under the law.

The trial, for criminal damage to the Shell HQ building in London’s Waterloo in April 2019, which could have led to a maximum five year prison sentence and / or a £10k fine each, is XR’s second only case to be heard before a jury.

The verdict is being hailed as a major victory for climate campaigners everywhere facing increasing criminalisation. Simon Bramwell, 49, cofounder of Extinction Rebellion, said: “It is a significant victory for the truth of these times, when despite the letter of the law, jurors can clearly see that a broken window is a just response to a breaking world.”

“How fitting that this comes after Earth Day and the two year anniversary of the death of environmental lawyer Polly Higgins, founder of the Stop Ecocide campaign, to whom we dedicated our non violent direct action against Shell. With today’s verdict, it is clear who the real climate criminals are in the climate and ecological emergency.

Miscarriages of Justice: The Joint Enterprise conundrum

In 2015 the Supreme Court determined that the law of joint enterprise had been wrongly interpreted for 30 years, yet people convicted under that discredited law are still languishing in prison. It was used to convict marginalised and vulnerable defendants predominately from BAME and working-class communities resulting in numerous miscarriages of justice. With little or no actual evidence of involvement against them, many of these defendants were given mandatory life sentences for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
