After his phony filibuster, I received an email asking for money before Cory Booker left the Capitol. So I unsubscribed. I’m sure if I hadn’t, I would have received another one today after his obviously staged outrage about the police funding bill. His repeated pattern of getting angry for a headline, asking for donations, and then not offering anything solid to move the ball toward the endzone is damaging our chances of taking the House and/or Senate in 2026.

Once upon a time in America, people were proud to pay their taxes. Somehow, the rich have convinced us that taxes are an evil burden instead of a patriotic necessity in order to provide for the general welfare. Politicians of every stripe are always quick to promise to cut our taxes even though we really don’t pay a high tax rate on our income.

Maybe if we can once again make paying taxes something to be proud of, we will find politicians with the political will to raise taxes on the rich.

Just a thought.

Maybe not all of them. The way we’ve treated our war veterans, I could see how some of them wouldn’t care what happens to our country. But I believe most of them have a breaking point and it’s only a matter of time before we find out where it is.
