            DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR SHEPHERD GROUPS
            1. What is one thing from this message that really stood out to you?
            2. What did Greg mean when he said we should be “radical like Jesus”? In what ways was Jesus radical?
            3. Who shared the gospel with you before you were a believer in Jesus?
            4. Does evangelism sound scary or exciting to you? Why?
            5. When was the last time you shared the gospel with someone? Do you feel confident that you could share the gospel with someone if you had the opportunity?
            6. Read and discuss Matthew 9:35-38 and 1 John 2:6. What do you note about Jesus’ disposition toward people?
            7. Based on the passages above, Greg admonished us to “live as Jesus lived.” Which of these areas would you consider a strength in your life?
              • See what Jesus saw.
              • Feel what Jesus felt.
              • Imagine what Jesus imagined.
              • Pray like Jesus prayed.
              • Do what Jesus did.
              • What is one area from the list above that you tend to struggle with as you walk with Jesus? What adjustments or practical steps do you need to make? Spend some time praying for each other for these areas. Pray also for the lost to be saved and the saved to be sent.

                1. What stood out do you most in this service?
                2. You listened to updates from several different missionaries. What did you learn about Bruno and Abby’s journey with kids in Brazil? What did you learn about the missionaries ministering in war-torn areas? Discuss what it would mean to be engaged in daily living that was interrupted by rocket fire. How would you manage the stress in these conditions?

                4. Have you ever been on a mission trip? Where have you been and what was it like for you? What challenges did you face and what benefits did you experience?
                5. If you could go on trip, where would you consider going and why?
                6. Choose some specific areas of the world to pray for as you close out

                8. Arise, Go, Preach
                  DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR SHEPHERD GROUPS
                  1. What stood out to you most in this message?
                  2. In Jonah 3:1 it says that the word came to Jonah a second time. It is clear that God was giving Jonah a second chance to obey and do what he is being asked to do. Has God ever given you a second chance at obedience?
                  3. In Jonah 3:2, God calls Jonah to arise. It is a call to repentance for not engaging in the call for evangelism. In what way is God drawing you into greater evangelism?
                  4. After this God calls Jonah to go. Who is he calling you to reach? Are there those in your life who need to hear the Gospel? What has gotten in your way so far?
                  5. The final part of this text is to preach. If you were to open up a spiritual conversation – what would you say? Do you have a sense of how you might begin spiritual conversations? Brainstorm some opening questions or statements you might consider.
                  6. God gave Jonah a wake up call, not a guilt trip. Does this conversation feel like one or the other of these two?
                  7. Pray for the Lord to open doors and move hearts for touching those around you for Christ.

                    2. How have you struggled with whether or not a believer in Jesus should be involved in the political process in our country?
                    3. What new information did you glean from this message about how our political process works and the responsibility we have as believers to engage?
                    4. How have you come to clarity on the notion of America being a Christian nation? It was discussed that our nations was founded on biblical principles, but the application over the years is a different matter. Discuss your perspective.
                    5. Discuss the tension between submitting to the governing authorities as in Romans 13 with the potential reality of civil disobedience.
                    6. Under what circumstances do you see yourself as possibly being disobedient to the governing authorities?
                    7. What additional questions or concerns were raised in your mind as a result of this message?

                      1. Review the topics of the 6 weeks we have covered so far. Respond to the notion that we are stewards of culture and are to promote God’s idea for how it should unfold in each area covered.
                      2. Discuss what it means to “remove the gap between the sacred and secular.” How does a believer as an ambassador of Christ do this?
                      3. Discuss the notion that human government is God’s idea and that even pagan governments are part of God’s orchestrated plan. Is this new thinking for you? Explain.
                      4. The process in human culture is always a combination of the sovereignty of God and the choices of men. How has your perspective been impacted by this statement?
                      5. Have you ever felt the need to leverage the authorities in a given situation? How has this sermon modified your perspective on that discussion?
                      6. How do you feel inside when the Bible says to submit to the governing authorities when you have frustrations with those authorities?

                        3. Have you ever been on the receiving end of discrimination? If so, in what way?
                        4. Discuss the challenges of relating to people of different ethnic backgrounds. What do you find challenging?
                        5. What are practical steps you might recommend our church leaders to consider as we become more multicultural?
                        6. How could you more proactively take steps toward unity in our church body?
