    6. Which of the four applications points from this week’s message impacted you the most? Why?
    7. What will you do this week to prepare your heart and mind for Good Friday and Easter Sunday?

        DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR SHEPHERD GROUPS
        1. What stood out to you in this message?
        2. How intensely are you aware of the battle between the regenerated self and the old man? If you are comfortable share a bit more about that struggle in your own life.
        3. Given this passage, why do you think Christians are so hesitant to acknowledge the struggle and to pretend like we are “all good”?
        4. When it comes to the battle why do you think we struggle to take “the way out that God provides?” Do you think most believers are aware of their sin areas and should be able to note the “way out” more quickly? Explain.
        5. When you think of “walking in the Spirit,” explain what you believe that means.
        6. How difficult is it for you to bear with the short comings of others? Explain.
        7. Spend some time in prayer for yourselves regarding the application points from this message.

          9. Rescued, Part 8: How Do We Send?
            DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR SHEPHERD GROUPS
            1. When you think about missions, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Do you get excited? Nervous? Guilty? Burdened?
            2. To you, what is the gospel? What is required for salvation and a relationship with God?
            3. Read Romans 10:9-15. What stands out to you from the passage from this Sunday’s sermon?
            4. In the first-century context, why were messengers important and honored? How should that change the way we look at missions? Also consider 2 Corinthians 5:18-21.
            5. Paul was not demanding everyone go be an international missionary, but he commended churches for their participation with him in the spreading of the gospel (e.g., Philippians 1:5). How do you think you are currently participating in global missions?
            6. Pastor Aaron mentioned five ways we can be involved in sending: giving financially, prayer, encouragement and thanks, selflessly releasing, and providing direction and guidance. Do you think there are others? How are you currently practically involved in sending? Where do you think God wants you to grow in the area of sending?
            7. Pastor Aaron mentioned two common misconceptions about preaching: 1) Preaching is only for preachers, and 2) People will figure it out if I live it out. Have you seen these excuses in your own life? If so, where?
            8. Where do you think God wants you more active in sharing your faith? As a shepherd group, consider making a list of people you are praying for, and pray for your boldness is sharing (see Ephesians 6:19).

              DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR SHEPHERD GROUPS
              1. Reread Romans 5:12-21. What stands out to you from the passage itself or from Sunday’s sermon?
              2. Paul establishes the universal human conditions of sin and death in verses 12-14.
                a. In what subtle ways do we tend to minimize or redefine sin in our own lives?
                b. How does this passage challenge the cultural idea that people are basically good?
              3. In what ways does Paul contrast Jesus with Adam in verses 15-21?
              4. What does it mean that believers will “reign in life” (v. 17)?
              5. If we truly believed there is “more grace in Christ than sin in you,” how would that change the way that we live?

                2. How has this message adjusted your view on the significant reality of the believer’s access to the throne of God? How might that impact your daily living in terms of “drawing near”?
                3. Read 2 Corinthians 5:11-21. In what ways should being reconciled to God lead to a ministry of reconciliation?
                4. Who is someone close to you who needs to be reconciled?
                5. How have you seen endurance through suffering produce greater character in yourself or someone you know?
                6. What is your greatest takeaway from this message?

                  DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR SHEPHERD GROUPS
                  1. What stood out to you most in this message?
                  2. Read Genesis 15 with a focus on verse 6. Abraham believed God. How could the Jews have been mistaken and believe that Abraham was justified by works, circumcision, or the law?
                  3. Have you thought about the reality of Abraham being our Father in Faith? Why or why not? How has this message changed your perspective on this?
                  4. Review the 3 promises that were discussed that God has provided to us? Which one is the easiest and which is the hardest to embrace? Why?
                  5. Discuss the 3 things manifested in our lives if we are able to embrace the promises He has given us. Which of these is the easiest and which is the hardest?
                  6. What action step might you take to more deeply embrace the promises or live them out in daily life?

                  8. Rescued, Part 4: The Good News
                    DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR SHEPHERD GROUPS
                    1. What stood out to you in this message?
                    2. We have recently discussed the matter of where good works fit into matters of salvation. As a follower of Christ, how does this play out for you?
                    3. Read James 2:14-26. Discuss how we reconcile our passage in Romans 3 with this passage in James 2.
                    4. Why is it difficult to maintain a solid grasp on a grateful heart for what God has done?
                    5. Why do you think it is difficult for people to simply accept the free gift of salvation without getting “works of the law” entangled with it?
