In our "Abide" sermon series, we're studying the Gospel of John (chapters 13-17) and reorienting ourselves back to what it means to be a disciple of Jesus--a person who abides (S.T.A.Y.S.) with Jesus. This week in John 14:15-31 we find that a disciple of Jesus yields to the Holy Spirit in their everyday life.
The Holy Spirit reveals the glory of Jesus Christ so that we:
Depend on him above all else
Enjoy him above all else
Desire to please and honor him above all elseHow do you know if you’re “yielded” to the Holy Spirit?
You love Jesus--you know who he is, what he’s like, what he’s done, what he’s promised, what he’s commanded, and you love him for it all.
You trust and obey his commands because you are convinced they’re good for you.
Therefore, you know and do “God’s will.”
The Sovereign Will of God: the sovereign plan of God that he will bring about
God’s Will of Command: this will of God is what he commands us to do and he’s revealed it clearly and plainly in his Word, written by his Spirit and illuminated by his Spirit.
