In this chapter, John records Jesus’ third bodily appearance to the disciples after he was raised from the dead. In this passage, the disciples have been fishing all night. Having caught nothing, they are sent out again and get a miraculous catch of fish. Peter receives a lesson on love in this passage as Jesus asks, “Simon, do you truly love me more than these?” Through this Q & A, two kinds of love are examined, agape and phileo, yielding new insights into Jesus’ relentless love for sinners.
