As the book of Judges opens, God's people are hopeful that they will soon take hold of all that God has promised to them, but by the end of chapter 1 things have gone terribly wrong. How did things go so bad so quickly? Here we are shown the danger of disobedience, and the necessity of  perseverance, dependence and faith in living lives of true obedience.

God is at work in the world, and He invites us to join His project. In this passage, Paul warns us not to let a 'fleshly' squabbles distract us from seeing God's bigger project of growing His Church. And he charges us to join in the construction project, while being careful how we build.
