Last week, Amazon Prime Days took place on 11 and 12 July.The first day of Prime Day was the best-selling day in Amazon's history, making this year's Prime Day the biggest Prime Day event ever.Over the course of the two-day Prime Day shopping event, Prime members worldwide bought more than 375 million items, saving more than $2.5 billion, Amazon said in its Prime Day evaluation. It is unknown what sales Amazon and the marketplace retailers achieved on Prime Day. According to an estimate by Adobe Analytics, however, it was 12.7 billion dollars in the USA alone, 6.1 per cent more than in the previous year.
In the entire shopping process - from product advertising to possible exchange - digital options now play an essential role for German consumers. Nevertheless, brick-and-mortar retail is still the most popular place to make purchases. This is the result of a recent study by the international auditing and consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the results of which have just been published.34 percent of those surveyed said that they shop in stationary shops at least once a week. 23 percent used smartphones, 17 percent used a PC and 14 percent a tablet. Seven percent stated that they shop in virtual reality at least once a week. For many consumers, digital offers have become indispensable along the entire customer journey. Almost half of the participants in the study "often" or "almost always" use their smartphones to research products.What does this mean for retailers? it is clearly a matter of a close, seamless integration of all sales channels and the maximum integration of digital technologies. The customers are far enough along in their experience. The older ones, who make up the bulk of the population, are still partly behind, but the behaviour of the younger ones is decisive for the future. The so-called old are always imitating the young. So take heart!
