What's the latest on the Johnson and Johnson COVID 19 Vaccine?

A third Covid-19 vaccine, one made by Johnson & Johnson, could be authorized for use in the United States in the near future.  The vaccine was made through a collaboration of J&J's Belgium-based vaccine division, Janssen Pharmaceutical, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and it works a bit differently.

Johnson & Johnson's Covid-19 single-shot vaccine was shown to be 66% effective in preventing moderate and severe disease in a global Phase 3 trial, the company announced Friday. The vaccine is 85% effective overall at preventing hospitalization and death in all regions where it was tested. Its efficacy against moderate and severe disease ranged from one country to another: 72% in the US, 66% in Latin America and 57% in South Africa. This was measured starting one month after the shot.In South Africa, 95% of cases in the trial were due to a variant known as B.1.351, which is known to be more contagious and carries mutations that may make the virus less susceptible to the antibody immune response -- including antibodies prompted by vaccination.

Even those who got moderate cases of Covid-19 in the trial tended to develop a milder course and fewer symptoms, said Dr. Mathai Mammen, Janssen's global head of research and development. From one month after the shot, all hospitalizations and deaths occurred in the placebo group.

    Why is the Sky blue?

    Misconceptions:

there are many misconceptions and incorrect answers bandied about — because it reflects the ocean; because oxygen is a blue-colored gas; because sunlight has a blue tint — while the right answer is often thoroughly overlooked

    The Answer:

In truth, the reason the sky is blue is because of three simple factors put together: that sunlight is made out of light of many different wavelengths, that Earth's atmosphere is made out of molecules that scatter different-wavelength light by different amounts, and the sensitivity of our eyes. Put these three things together, and a blue sky is inevitable. Here's how it all comes together.

Why Were CornFlakes Invented?  The Myth, The Math, The Truth

Corn flakes, or cornflakes, is a breakfast cereal made from toasting flakes of corn (maize). The cereal, originally made with wheat, was created by William Kellogg in 1894 for his brother John Kellogg. John Kellogg wanted a food that would be healthy for the patients of the Battle Creek Sanitarium in Michigan where he was superintendent. The breakfast cereal proved popular among the patients, but Will Kellogg wanted to add sugar to increase the popularity. John Kellogg did not approve of this, so Will Kellogg started his own company Kellogg Company to produce corn flakes for the wider public. A patent for the process was granted in 1896, after a legal battle between the two brothers.

With corn flakes becoming popular in the wider community, a previous patient at the sanitarium, C. W. Post, started to make rival products. Kellogg continued to experiment and various ingredients were added and different grains were used. In 1928, he started to manufacture Rice Krispies, another successful breakfast cereal.

8 Things Doctors and Patients Should Know about the Pfizer COVID19 Vaccine

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine on Dec. 11. The vaccine is given in two doses that are 21 days apart from each other and is reported to be 95% effective at preventing COVID-19.

he authorization and distribution of the vaccine has raised a number of questions among physicians and the public. To help offset vaccine hesitancy, three AMA experts recently sat down to try and answer these questions during a two-part AMA COVID-19 Update. The panelists were:

    • Sandra Fryhofer, MD, internal medicine physician, adjunct associate professor of medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, AMA Board of Trustees member, and AMA Liaison to the Advisory Council on Immunization Practices (ACIP)
    • Shannon Curtis, assistant director, Federal Affairs for the AMA
    • Marcus Plescia, MD, chief medical officer, Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), ASTHO Liaison to ACIP

The three discussed what physicians need to know about the Pfizer vaccine and how to counsel patients on vaccine allocation.

  • What does Impeachment Really Mean?

    What does Impeachment Really Mean?

Impeachment is the process by which a legislative body addresses legal charges against a government official.[1] National legislations differ regarding the definition and consequences of an impeachment. In many countries, for example those in Latin America, "impeachment" refers to a definitive destitution; an official in these jurisdictions is therefore only considered "impeached" when they have been removed from office. Conversely, in other jurisdictions such as the United States, "impeachment" refers to a previous step, that of the authority's indictment; a U.S. president impeached by the House of Representatives remains in power while charges are addressed by the Senate, and may be found not guilty.

    In the US:

Congress derives the authority from the Constitution. The term "impeachment" is commonly used to mean removing someone from office, but it actually refers only to the filing of formal charges. If the House impeaches, the Senate then holds a trial on those charges to decide whether the officer — a president or any other federal official — should be removed and barred from holding federal office in the future.

Article One of the United States Constitution gives the House of Representatives the sole power of impeachment and the Senate the sole power to try impeachments of officers of the U.S. federal government.

    1. What constitutes an impeachable offense?

The founders intentionally kept the term "high crimes and misdemeanors" vague, because impeachment is meant to be a political act, not a legal one. Unlike in criminal law, there are no clear rules for evaluating when a president has stepped over the constitutional line.

The founders rejected the term "maladministration" as grounds for impeachment. They didn't want a president tossed out simply because Congress didn't think he was doing a good job. Alexander Hamilton said impeachable offenses were those that involved abuse of public trust. The term is generally understood to mean abuse of office that results in harm to the public.

How to Find and Possibly Hide my IP Address

In a typical home network—one where you’re accessing the internet from your cable modem, which is connected to your badass wifi router—you have both an external IP address and an internal IP address.

In simple terms, an external IP address allows devices around the internet to find you. It’s kind of like calling the company someone works for when you’re trying to reach them. The external IP address, in this case, would be the company’s phone number.

Your internal IP address is what your router dishes out to all the devices connected to it. It handles all the “routing,” hence the name, for data packets that travel in and out of your network. Think of this as the receptionist at said company who has to deal with all the incoming phone calls. They hear what you’re saying and forward you along to the specific person you’re trying to reach, and also keep that person protected—to stretch the metaphor—by not allowing random people to access to their direct phone number.
