I retired from my career job with IBM over 30 years ago, recently turned 82 and I am still working as a self-employed owner of two businesses. I start this podcast by explaining a little about myself, followed by my experiences over the thirty years. Looking back, I view those 30 years as three different phases of my retirement; the first ten years needing some additional income because I was not eligible to collect social security, truly retired on social security and wondering what now and the last ten years which I consider the best retirement years yet.
After 29 years with IBM as an electronic engineer and in upper management, I retired at the ripe old age of 51. I knew then that my working days were not done. Although receiving a pension, it was clear that I would need to earn an income for another ten years or so until becoming eligible to collect social security. I describe what I did during those ten years.
The first ten years of retirement behind me, I was finally collecting social security. We sold our home up north and moved south to South Carolina. After settling into our new location, the question became "Now what?"
After ten years in South Carolina, my wife and I decided to move again, this time to the great golfing community of Rock Barn Country Club & Spa in Conover North Carolina.
In this podcast I discuss how I handled my three phases of retirement over those thirty years.
