What does it mean if the conservative part of their portfolio (the bonds) are not holding up their end of the bargain?
Picture a seasaw your kids or grandkids play on. When one side goes down the other side goes up. Well, that's how bonds and interest rates work. When interest rates go up, bonds go down.
Don't just expect your retirement accounts to react the same way they have in the past. It's time to check out what could happen to the "conservative" pieces of your account.

What’s a biggest threat to your investment account growing – inflation or the economy slowing down? What if both happened. What if you thought inflation was going to be the large hurdle and decided to adjust your investments to match typical inflation threats. Or, you decided the economy has to slow down before real inflation hits and you drive your investments down a different road.
Maybe now is a great time to check if your accounts have the right balance or if they have drifted away. It's time to check if your money is taking on too much risk, or if you're positioned where there's not a lot of upside when the markets are doing well.

We have some good inflation news - the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for the 69 million Americans on Social Security will receive its biggest bump since 1983 – almost 40 years in the making.
The cost-of-living-adjustment was amped up because inflation for goods you and I need each day are coming with a higher price tag. No doubt you felt the pain at the gas pump or wondered why it seems soo expensive for your weekly run to the grocery store.
The average cost-of-living adjustment is right around 2%, so this super increase is making a splash in 2022. On the other side of this increase is the looming uncertainty of a potential Social Security cut in 2035.

Since the beginning of the stock market, there has always been a worry that the bottom is going to fall out. For most of us, it's human nature to think about what potentially may harm us and figure out how to combat that threat.
It's been widely documented that the stock market is a great way of creating wealth over an extended period of time. The trouble comes from looking at the immediate future and how your life changes if the market were to lose 10% / 20% / 30%.
So, what do you do? Structuring your short-term and long-term plans are essential for survival. Not sure for your money, but for you mental health.
