    In a train station, the Whistler points out the humanity that passes through. Certain characters are pointed out, namely Cartier, a former stage magician. Why is he being taken by gun point to a high-rise apartment? Is his career over, due to unpaid gambling debts? Suddenly, all the agents turn their backs on signing the big time magician for bookings.
    With a deadline drawing near,, will Goldberg reconsider, and give Cartier a break? Mingling at a party, Cartier is able to put his magic to work for the crowd. Will Sandra, a model, be able to lend him a hand? His new hypnotism act stands to do more than just entertain.
    Is there something to the powers of clairvoyance? Will it save the magician from his troubles, or just get him in deep with the cops. If only Cartier knew what the Whistler knows, his ending may have turned out differently.

    Trying to do a good deed, and surprise his wife, Fibber brings home a bag of mushrooms he picked himself. Molly suspects the little button mushrooms might be toadstools. What will Alice Darling think when she pops in to tell about her dating life. a phone call finds Fibber chatting with Myrt the phone operator, to learn about how her Old man is higher than a kite again. After a clash with the hall closet, we listen to a soft dance number from Billy Mills.
    How does Fibber ever manage to find anything in his cluttered closet? He explains his organization scheme, then calls on Beulah to cook up his batch of mushrooms. Will they go well with the grouse… or is that grease, if they’re plural? Not only is Beulah doubtful, Harlow Wilcox is reluctant to stay for dinner. But first a quick phone call home, and plug for the sponsor.
    Getting resistance about his mushrooms, Fibber is all the more stubborn about having them. Teeny visits, and hears Fibbers tale about toadstools and mushrooms. Will the fantasy story hold water with Teeny’s scientific mind? The Kingsmen sing, Carolina.
    While Fibber looks forward to his dinner of steak and mushrooms, Molly fears for his life, but will doc Gamble side for her, or Fibber when he learns the origin of the tasty morsels? Warnings of self picked mushrooms abound through the show. Molly and doc enjoy their steak, but keep a suspicious eye on Fibber. Will he be proved out? Or is there an untold twist to this tale?

  • Father Knows Best – Rehearsing A Play. ep71, 510301
    The center of drama queen Betty’s life revolves around whether the school play will be a success. Will she convince her dad to take a part in the drama? Mom is on her side, but will Jim feel like he’s being ganged up on the instant he was in the door? Bud’s request to upgrade his bicycle for a motorbike only complicates the matter. For once, Cathy is laying low while mom runs interference on the kids. Margret’s subtle reverse psychology works, despite Betty’s dramatic outpouring.
    One crisis follows another when Jim needs to be set straight on which part in the theater he is to play. The reading of lines is interrupted as Cathy and Bud barge through the scene. This being Jim’s big scene, everybody gets to read lines but him. Jim sets out to prove the attempt at Shakespeare is out of the teenage league, but will he convince Betty to switch to something more contemporary? Something more American?
    The big night at the school production arrives, and Mom sits with Cathy as Betty takes the stage. Is the play selection a better fit?

  • Lum and Abner – Spending A Night In A Motel Room. 440410
    After breaking down, the gents are relieved to get some rest in a motel room. At this rate they may never get to Tennessee, and their treasure hunt. Their only thought is to get in bed for the night, but the room is small and cramped.
    All three pile into a single bed, Lum, Abner, and Cedric, and wiggling around to turn off the light is an ordeal. Cedric is suddenly worried they should bring in the pinball machine, in case someone wanted to steal it. Just as Abner dozes, Cedric soothes himself by doing bird calls.
    The concept of counting sheep is foreign to him. How many does he need to find, and bring in the room? Confused about how imagination works, Cedric imagines horses… is that OK? Is there any rule to the right of way with sheep and horses jumping over the same fence? cedric is finally asleep, but now there’s something bothering Lum and Abner.

    Bob “Broadcasting from Camp Cook” Hope jokes about the censored location of the desert base. Jokes about buglers, the wash room, tanks, dating, and homely girls.
    Francis Langford and the Six Hits and a Miss sing, I Got It Bad and That Ain’t Good. Francis joins the jokes about military life, physical exams, and more. Babe Ruth enters to joke about girls in slacks, baseball, each others physical condition, and staying in shape. Is there some sport that Bob is better than Babe? With the Six Hits and a Miss, Betty Hutton sings, Dixieland Band.
    The gang get ready to head home after the show. The cast take turns joking about military life, How did the soldiers receive the cast? Bob gets a medal for his performance. A few last jokes about military life are shared, then the train arrives with engineer Colonna. On the train, Skinny and Babe share a berth, they comment on the scenery outside, the service in the compartments, and bob argues with Jerry.

    The cast joke about the Rose Bowl game. Jack gloats over his bet with Phil Harris, but Phil isn’t nearly as grudging of a loser as Jack expects. Isn’t Jack going to take Phil’s money? Is there some ulterior motive? Dennis Day sings, With the Wind and Rain in Her Hair.
    The play has been changed since it was announced last week, and Mary rolls back the clock to share the secret of why. She and Jack take in Phil’s show in the Wiltshire Bowl. The corny jokes are too much for Jack to stand, so he goes to chat with Barbara Stanwick. Will she dance with Jack? How does she like Jack’s impressive style? He corners her into being on his show.
    The flashback continues with Rochester helping with the preparations in Jack’s house. When Barbara arrives, she and Jack get ready to rehearse lines. Does Jack’s lines match the drama of Barbara’s? The love scene gets them confused. Is there any amount of rehearsing that will make their scene work?

    After figuring the taxes for the year, Willie breaks the news to Phil. Is Phil too extravagant in his business dealings, and paying his band members. Phil is faced with firing his musicians who are worthless, and don’t contribute. Is Frankie’s future going to be in danger? Phil sings, On the Mississippi.
    There’s no other way, Phil has to cut salaries, and Remley is the first to feel the pinch. Will Phil fall prey to Frankie’s sob stories? Will Alice agree to let Frankie move in to help him with expenses? Alice sings, Nobody’s Chasing Me.
    Housing is hard to find. Will it elp if Alice flaunts her good looks? Will Frankie be too ppicky? When the only place is one for families, will Frankie be able to borrow Alice as his wife? How desperate is she? Will Phil stand for Frankie kissing Alice?

    Julius poses as their son… if he can stomach it.
    Note: Phil is refered to as an old Cherokee, Wanga. It’s his middle name. Though he isn’t Cherokee, he was raised in part, by one, but he is frequently teased about having that heritage.

As Bill and Jingles ride into town, gunshots are sure to mean danger for somebody.
    Jim has been shot, but does he know the sidewinder who did the shooting? While Bill and Jingles ride after the bad guy, Duke Daniels takes up business with the Mayor. Soon, Sally has to run for help when Daniels turns against the Mayor. Will the blonde find Bill before its too late for her dad? The lay of the land around the ranch is peaceful, Jingles would never think the violence of earlier could happen. Has Daniels made a clean get away?
    Trapped in the barn, Daniels makes a standoff. Will this be an easy catch? Or will Daniels pick off our heros one by one?

    At a family gathering, death makes an appearance. With Lamonte Cranston and Margot Lane on hand, they do their best to capture a killer. Is it the butler who did it? Is there any hope for saving the holiday celebration?
    Clues emerge, but doubt remains in who the killer might be in the tale of greed and blackmail.
    An age old grudge plays into the picture, and turns the list of suspects around. The real story behind an inheritance comes out, but it\s going to take a little interference from the Shadow to set thinghs right.

  • Lum and Abner – Trip To Tennessee Under Way. 440406
    Still in charge, Cedric sets the tone, and gives orders concerning the expedition to Tennessee. Among his essentials for life on the road, Cedric has brought a pinball machine… thee gaming device of the younger generation of 1944.
    As the gang strikes out, Cedric states the importance of driving less than 35MPH to conserve tires. He forces a halt to check tire pressure. Good measures to do their patriotic duty for the war effort. For now, Abner has been tasked to dig out the tire pump from under the pinball machine, and air up the low tire.
    The travelers get a bit cranky when the pump has to be put under the pinball machine. Gilroy Adams seems to be making better time walking as the gents do in the car.
    With all the attention to tires, one by one they pop, and there’s no spare. Well… at least Cedric is willing to share his pinball machine while they wait.
