Whenever God does something to push forward His plan to bring full restoration and final redemption to Israel, the central question set before Christians is what they will do with the Jewish people who are the visible remnant of Israel. That question came before Christians in Europe and North America during the Shoa (Holocaust) and the rebirth of the Jewish State of Israel. As Laura Densmore of Bridge Connector Ministries explains, Christians then had to choose whether to help Jews through the extreme trials of that era, or stand aside or even help those who sought to hinder God’s plans by seeking the destruction of the Jewish people. In this concluding part of our conversation, Laura talks about the lessons of the past and shares ideas about how to do the right thing regarding Israel today.
Like everything else in life, our actions and attitudes toward the Jewish people are expressions of what is in our hearts. That’s what Barry Phillips and David Jones discuss in their midrash called, “Motives.” Only God can look into our hearts and assess our true motives, which is why we should make it a priority to get close to Him. That’s what we hear in the music of the Exodus Road Band.

Christians (including Messianic and Hebrew Roots believers) and Jews share common ground in Zion, or at least we should. That’s where Laura Densmore of Bridge Connector Ministries picks up this second part of our conversation about the growing presence of antisemitism, or Jew hatred, among Christians. Zionism is the movement for the return of the Jewish people to their ancestral homeland and the resumption of Jewish sovereignty in the land of Israel. It shouldn’t be a controversial topic among Christians, especially since it’s a key component of God’s promises (Zechariah 8:17, John 12:15, Romans 11:26, Revelation 14:1), and yet Zionism has become a curse among many believers. Why is that, and what do we do about it?
The division in the body of Messiah about Zion and the Jewish people comes at the time when we should be united. David Jones and Barry Phillips have some thoughts about that in their midrash, “Does Preference Promote Unity?” It’s a matter of where we place our identity, as we hear in the music of Wilderness Cry and Solomon O. Lopez.

In Zechariah 12 we read that God will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all the nations. That’s a word about judgment. When we remember that judgment begins with the household of God (1 Peter 4:17), maybe we should connect the dots and consider whether His judgment of His people starts with our attitude toward the land and people of Israel. Specifically, it may be that the question God is placing before the body of Messiah and the world in general is what we think of the Jewish people.
Laura Densmore of Bridge Connector Ministries has a lot to say about this issue. She recently wrote an article called “Breaking the Silence – Stepping Away from Fallen Heroes Who Attack Jews” in which she points out an alarming thread of Jew hatred among conservative influencers, Christian leaders, and Hebrew Roots teachers. In this three-part interview, Laura shares how that anti-Jewish sentiment has impacted her, and how it is a troubling echo of Christian attitudes that have led to horrendous actions against the Jewish people through the centuries.
Laura’s point about the insidious prevalence of Jew hatred even among Christians and Messianic believers brings up a critical question: How do we know what to do and whom to trust in this confusing world? Barry Phillips and David Jones provide an answer in their midrash, “The Result of the Ruach.” It really is a matter of waiting on God and listening for His voice, as we hear in the music of Miriam Houtz and the Exodus Road Band.

It's not that easy to pray, especially when it seems that God is not listening. So why do we pray? How should we pray? How do we know if it's working? These are questions Barry Phillips and David Jones investigate in this conversation about a basic element of life with our Creator.

Are we allowed to get close to God and be intimate with Him, or do we have to keep our distance? The Bible can be confusing on this point. That's why Barry Phillips and David Jones look into this question to offer some counsel on how to approach the Holy God who actually wants to dwell with and in us.

We talk about people who have a divine call on their lives. Is that only certain people like pastors and teachers, or does God call everyone to something? Before we get to that question, let's consider how well God knows each one of us humans He created. David Jones and Barry Phillips carry us through that line of thought.

The Bible tells us to pray, "Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." What exactly does that mean? What is this "Kingdom" and why does it matter to us? Barry Phillips and David Jones have pondered this subject prayerfully for many years. In this midrash they share what they have learned.

Hebrews 11 tells us it's impossible to please God without faith. So what is faith? How do we get it? What do we do with it? David Jones and Barry Phillips offer some answers to these questions and more. They have much to say about what faith is, and what it isn't!

We read in the Bible that God's thoughts and ways are different from our own. What does that mean when we are trying to make sense of life? How do we account for the many different understandings we have of God and His word? Barry Phillips and David Jones have some helpful thoughts about that.
