  • David Nekrutman: A Covenant Relationship, part 3
What is it that Jews do not understand about Christians? What do Christians not understand about Jews? How has that mutual misunderstanding hindered the development of healthy Jewish-Christian relations, and how do we overcome it? That’s the opening topic in this part of our conversation with David Nekrutman. He has been dealing with these questions for over 20 years, and has some ideas about how to make things better between these two parts of God’s covenant people.

Improved relations between Christians and Jews requires clear thinking and discernment of truth from fiction. Too often, we get sidetracked by news items and stories that turn out to be little better than rumors, but which attract our attention. Barry Phillips and David Jones talk about this in their midrash called, “That’s Sensational.” It really is a matter of what our hearts are inclined to receive, which is what our musical guests Solomon Lopez and Jimmie Black sing about.

  • David Nekrutman: A Covenant Relationship, part 2
One obstacle in building healthy relationships between Jews and Christians is the relative ignorance each has of the other. That’s something David Nekrutman talks about in this second part of our four-part conversation. He begins by addressing the many Judaisms of the First Century which shaped the environment in which Yeshua of Nazareth lived – a subject that most Christians don’t understand, but which would greatly enhance their faith as they learn the historical and cultural context of the Gospels.  David then goes on to describe the difference between Christian-Jewish relations and Christian support for Israel. Are they two different things, or two interrelated parts of the same interfaith dynamic?

There is something prophetic about the growth of Jewish-Christian dialogue in recent years. Barry Phillips and David Jones touch on that in their midrash, “Sign of His Coming.” We hear other aspects of it in the music of Laura Metzing and Rut Banks.

  • David Nekrutman: A Covenant Relationship, part 1
Jews and Christians (including Messianic and Hebrew Roots believers) all profess faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Why, then, do we have such trouble getting along? David Nekrutman has a lot to say about that. He’s been involved in bringing these two parts of God’s covenant people together for over 20 years. “Covenant” is the operative term here. In this four-part interview, we explore what that means, starting with David’s book, Your Sabbath Invitation, which he wrote to help Christians understand what the Sabbath is and why it is important for us.

One common point between Jews and Christians is our expectation that our faith will translate into lifestyles that honor our God. That’s what David Jones and Barry Phillips discuss in their midrash, “Belief or Action.” Samuel & Benjamin Wearp and Will Spires also have something to share about that in their music.

  • Morgan Phelps: A Kingdom Business, part 3
Have we lost the art of networking? We may think we’re networking when we connect through websites, email, apps, and social media, but are we really? That’s a key point in our conversation with Morgan Phelps. As she explains, real networking is more personal and takes more effort than what we’ve grown accustomed to doing.

One of the greatest obstacles to starting a small business, or taking initiative on anything, is the opposition we face within our own minds. That’s part of the topic Barry and David address in their midrash, “Guard Your Heart,” and what we hear in the music of Laura Metzing and Jimmie Black.

  • Morgan Phelps: A Kingdom Business, part 2
Do tragedies make us, or break us? Maybe the answer depends on how we decide to deal with the tragedies. That’s a question Morgan Phelps addresses in this part of our conversation. She and her family are no strangers to adversity – even some of the worst kinds of loss. Nevertheless, they have found ways to survive and thrive through every trial.

A big part of overcoming adversity concerns our relationship with our Creator. Connecting with Him at His appointed times is a very important part of building that relationship. Will Spires and Kelly Ferrari Mills have some observations in song about that, and so do Barry Phillips and David Jones, as they explain in “Divine Nature and the Fall Feasts.”

  • Morgan Phelps: A Kingdom Business, part 1

What were you doing at the age of 8? That’s the age Morgan Phelps was when she started her first business! Now, at the age of 24, she not only continues to operate her own businesses, she also advises others who would like to go into business or manage their family farms. This three-part conversation with Morgan is both encouraging and informative, and will inspire you to find out what more you might do according to fulfill our God’s purposes for your life!

Our God does have a purpose for each of us, and He is gracious and merciful. He’s also righteous and just, and that means He has eternal standards that He expects all His creation to meet. So what happens when we refuse to meet those standards? Is there ever a chance we could be exiled from His good graces? Barry Phillips and David Jones investigate that question in “When Does YHVH Not Forgive?” As you might imagine, there’s an element of repentance involved in this, as we hear in the music of Eved Adonai and Teshuva.

  • Dr. Gayle Timberlake: Festival in a Box, part 3

What is the difference between happiness and joy? The answer may be surprising. As Dr. Gayle Timberlake explains, simka is the Hebrew word for joy, and her Simka Foundation is in the business of helping Christians learn about and receive the joy of the Lord in ways they might not have previously known were available to them. To learn more about the Simka Foundation, visit the website at https://www.simkafoundation.org/.

Sukkot, the Feasts of Tabernacles, is all about rejoicing in our God’s presence. However, it takes considerable preparation to be ready to rejoice and receive His joy in return. That preparation period, commencing in the sixth Hebrew month of Elul, is the subject of conversation as Barry Phillips and David Jones share their “Thoughts on ELUL.” It’s also the subject of the music shared by Dylan White and Laura Metzing.

  • Dr. Gayle Timberlake: Festival in a Box, part 2

Gayle Timberlake describes the Feasts of the Lord as gifts our God offers freely to bless His people. This is something our Jewish brothers and sisters have known for a very long time, but Christians are only now coming to understand it. In this second part of our conversation, Gayle explains how the Simka Foundation helps individuals, families, and churches enjoy these blessings as they follow the example of Messiah Yeshua in celebrating the Feasts.

To learn more about the Simka Foundation, visit the website at https://www.simkafoundation.org/.

Gayle is right about the Feasts of the Lord being blessings, but there is another aspect to blessing that we seldom consider: our attitude toward the blessings our Heavenly Father bestows on His children. Do we appreciate His blessings in our daily lives, or do we take them for granted? That’s the topic Barry Phillips and David Jones address in their midrash, “Entitled Miracles.” It’s really a relationship issue – as in our relationship with our Father, as we hear in the music of House of Aaron and Will Spires.

  • Dr. Gayle Timberlake: Festival in a Box, part 1
If you were just beginning to wonder about the festivals Yeshua celebrated and whether they have any meaning for Christians, where would you go to get answers? Dr. Gayle Timberlake has a suggestion: take a look at the Simka Foundation, which not only offers teachings on the Feasts of the Lord, but also has resources to help people celebrate the Feasts on their own. In this three-part interview, Gayle explains how she came to understand and experience the blessings of observing the appointed times Messiah Yeshua observed, and establish the Simka Foundation as an avenue to help others experience that same blessing and joy. To learn more about the Simka Foundation, visit the website at https://www.simkafoundation.org/.

Gayle’s work with the Simka Foundation may seem unusual to those who recall the harsh words Yeshua spoke to the Jewish leaders of His day – words of rebuke that leave us with negative stereotypes of Pharisees and other Jewish sects of the time. That’s a subject Barry Phillips and David Jones address in their conversation entitled, “Does Pharisee Mean Bad?” It’s an eye-opening conversation, punctuated by the music of Dylan White and Laura Metzing.

  • Clint Lalum: Friend of Israel, part 3

One of the passions Clint Lalum shares is his great desire to see all of Israel’s exiles gathered back to the Promised Land. That’s a promise of God that he is helping bring about through his work  at Christian Friends of Israel in Jerusalem. It’s also the topic of the midrash by Barry Phillips and David Jones, which they call, “Gathering Family,” and of our special musical guests, Teshuva.
