It’s a mystery why our God highlights certain things in His word to some people at specific times, but not to everyone all at once. Whatever His reasons, He certainly tests our faith and our resolve to follow where He leads. Barry Phillips can testify to that. His faith and resolve were severely tested when the Lord called him out of established ministry as a denominational pastor, and into the path of inquiring about Torah and how it applies to followers of Messiah Yeshua. In this second part of our visit with Barry, he explains what happened when that call came, and how it resulted in his roles as pastor of House of David in Gloucester, Virginia, teacher at Remnant of Yisrael, and Elder of B’ney Yosef North America.
Barry, along with David Jones, provide our musical segments in this show with songs that highlight their midrash, “A Need for the Ruach.”

Barry Phillips has been serving Messiah Yeshua since he was a child – much of that time as a pastor and evangelist. For the past twenty years, his pastoral duties have shifted from the traditional Sunday church setting to shepherding a congregation that honors the seventh day Shabbat and the commandments of Torah. How did that happen? That’s what we learn in this three-part conversation with Barry, the pastor of House of David in Gloucester, Virginia, the teacher at Remnant of Yisrael, and one of the founding Elders of B’ney Yosef North America.
Barry joins David Jones in a midrash about our relationship with our Creator which they call, “Approaching a Holy Elohim.” He is an awesome God, as Jimmie Black and Will Spires express in music.

If God is in the business of restoration, what should be the business of His people? Yes, we should also be in the business of restoration, but too often we find excuses for avoiding restoration, especially when it comes to relationships. That’s what Steve Wearp talks about in this concluding part of our conversation. Specifically, Steve addresses the difficult relationship between Christians and Jews over the centuries, and what can be done to make things better between these two halves of God’s covenant people. It’s a calling Steve has walked out for many years through his work with organizations like Blessed Buy Israel, Nations’ 9th of Av, and HaYovel.
The first relationship that needs restoration, of course, is with our God. We hear about that in “Your Attention Please,” the latest midrash by David Jones and Barry Phillips, and in the music of Jimmie Black and Solomon Lopez.

Did you ever follow a nudge from the Holy Spirit, but don’t know what it was all about? Those who hear and obey our God’s direction experience that sometimes, and only learn His reasons years later. In this second part of our conversations with Steve Wearp, he shares such an experience during one of his early visits to Israel, and then what he learned about that experience many years later. It’s part of the process of restoration Israel’s God is doing to fulfill His promises, working through people like Steve and his Jewish and Christian connections with Blessed Buy Israel, Nations’ 9th of Av, HaYovel, and many others.
God’s promises to Israel involve gathering His people from every part of the world where they have been scattered. David Jones and Barry Phillips dive into that topic in their midrash called, “Gather Together.” We hear more about that in the meditations of our musical guests, the Aleph Tav Band and Will Spires.

Steve Wearp has such a passion for Israel that he and his family have shaped their lives around connecting with the Jewish people and the Promised Land. We visited with him to learn about his sojourn in Israel during the latter part of 2022 – a sojourn that included the High Holy Days and the election season that brought a new conservative government to power. In this three-part interview, Steve shares with us what he observed, and how his connections with Blessed Buy Israel, Nations’ 9th of Av, HaYovel, and their Jewish and Christian partners are walking out the promises of Israel’s restoration and final redemption.
Steve’s message is one of hope, but it’s not always a popular message among the mainstream that doesn’t understand the importance of Israel and the centrality of the Jewish people in God’s redemptive plans for the nations. People tend to reject uncomfortable truths, but they also reject questionable ideas. How do we tell the difference? Barry Phillips and David Jones address that question in their midrash, “Rejection Is Not Validation,” a discussion illustrated by the music of Dylan White.

People with vision sometimes are hard to understand. That’s because they are not as concerned about money, success, comfort, and the other things that fill the thoughts of most people.
Samuel Wearp can tell us a lot about people of vision and purpose. He not only works with them, he is one of them! That’s why he has such passion about helping the shepherds of Judea walk out their calling to see the promises of Israel’s restoration come to pass. Even more than that, Samuel invites all who are willing to join him in this work! How to do that is the subject of this concluding segment in our interview with him.
Why do these Jewish pioneers have such zeal in their work to see Israel completely restored? Because they know they are home, and no longer in exile. The exile is still very real for multitudes of Hebrews, whether they are Jewish or not. Until the Messianic Kingdom of Israel is complete, the native born and the adopted remain in the exile of the nations. That’s what Barry Phillips and David Jones discuss in the midrash, “Praying in Exile.” How to come out of exile is what we hear in the music of Teshuva and Jimmie Black.

If Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and David were all shepherds of Israel, wouldn’t it make sense that a significant part of Israel’s restoration would be the return of shepherds and their flocks to Israel’s Biblical Heartland?
Yes, of course that makes sense!
That’s the story of our conversation with Samuel Wearp. His passion for Israel’s land and people fuels his involvement with Blessed Buy Israel and the Nations’ 9th of Av, as well as many other initiatives aimed at supporting the work of Jewish pioneers in Judea and Samaria. In this two-part interview, Samuel tells us of an exciting new project to help the shepherds of Chavat Ma’on, in the Judean desert southeast of the ancient city of Hebron. One exciting part of this project is that you can be part of it!
This gets to an interesting aspect of God’s promises: we have the choice of joining Him in bringing those promises to fulfillment, or sitting back and complaining about why they aren’t fulfilled to our liking. That’s something Barry Phillips and David Jones address in their midrash called, “Complaining.” It’s also a theme in the music of our guest artists, Rut Banks and the Aleph Tav Band.

The promise of Israel’s restoration has been in the process of fulfillment for many centuries, but only since the mid-twentieth century has that fulfillment become apparent to the entire world. Until then, only a few believed it would actually happen, and fewer still worked actively to bring that promise into reality. Now the miracle of Israel is there for all to see, and for all who understand God’s promises, to ask what He will do in the next part of this process.
This is the topic of conversation with Tzefania Pappas in this concluding segment of our interview with him. He begins by sharing some little-known stories of what God was doing among the Jewish people in the land of Israel during World War I. You may be surprised at how those fascinating stories have a direct connection to us who even now await the final redemption of all Israel.
God’s promises about Israel’s final redemption indicate that the nation will be restored in righteousness. What exactly is righteousness, and how does it apply to us in our daily lives? That’s what David Jones and Barry Phillips investigate in their midrash called, “Like A Tree,” and what we hear in the music of Will Spires and Lenny and Varda.
Tzefania has been blessed to take part in a number of developments in Ephraim’s awakening over the past two decades. One is the March Through the Arch in 2008, a video of which is available here: https://youtu.be/XxfVnmTRv3E
He is also the co-founder of Beyond the Mountain, which can be seen at the following links:

When God begins to do something, He raises up pioneers who are ready to hear His voice and do what He says, even if it seems impossible. Of course, it usually is impossible, which is why only God gets the credit! We see this in the miraculous rebirth of Israel as a nation. That’s why the continued existence of the Jewish people is the greatest evidence that there is a God Who is willing and able to come through on His promises.
So what about His promises to restore the rest of Israel: those “Lost Tribes” of the northern kingdom of Israel? Is their restoration included in the restoration of the Jewish people, or should we expect something else?
Tzefania Pappas is one of those Ephraimite pioneers who affirm that we should expect something else. There is more of Israel yet to be gathered from the nations and joined with Judah, the Jewish part of the nation, to complete the restoration of all Israel. In this second part of our conversation, Tzefania explains how this miraculous restoration process was beginning in South Africa during his sojourn there.
This kind of story requires considerable faith to believe and walk out. That’s what Teshuva and Rut Banks sing about in their musical presentations. This kind of faith is also best walked out in the company of like-minded pioneers, as Barry Phillips and David Jones explain in their midrash, “Division or Die-vision.”

Tzefania Pappas is one of the founders of B’ney Yosef North America, and has contributed his talents to the Reunion Roadmap production team since the podcast began. Now we get to hear his story! It’s the story of a brother who has been on a journey toward Zion for his entire life – a journey that received focus and direction when he became aware of his Hebraic identity and connection to Israel. This is a journey that has taken Tzefania from his roots in the American Midwest, to South Africa, and many times to Israel. In this three-part interview, he shares with us the inspiration that set him on this path, and the surprising twists and turns his journey has taken.
The Ruach Hakodesh (Holy Spirit) has directed Tzefania’s journey, just as He has directed the journeys of all who seek the way toward the heart of our Creator. Barry Phillips and David Jones have much to say about the Spirit’s role in their midrash called, “Water and Spirit” – a subject that has also inspired the musical offerings of Mason Clover and House of Aaron.
