  • Bob O'Dell: Root Source, part 3

We conclude our visit with Bob O’Dell this week as Bob tells us about The Nations’ 9th of Av – what it is when it happens, and why it is important. To learn more, see The Nations’ 9th of Av (https://9-av.com/). Also, check out Root Source (https://root-source.com/), the teaching ministry Bob co-founded with Gidon Ariel. Root Source is the publisher of The LIST: Persecution of Jews by Christians Throughout History, the comprehensive work Bob compiled along with Ray Montgomery.

Barry Phillips and David Jones discuss the topic of Correction, which is in keeping with the theme they have followed over the past few shows. We also enjoy the artistic gifts of Barry’s worship band, the Aleph Tav Band, and the original music of Gregory Brown.

  • Bob O'Dell: Root Source, part 2

Our conversation with Bob O’Dell continues in this show as he shares how he became aware of the 9th of Av in a powerful way, learning not only about the significance of the day for Jews, but also for Christians. Coming to that understanding was an important part of the journey that resulted in Bob meeting Gidon Ariel and partnering with him to establish their unique teaching ministry call Root Source (https://root-source.com/). It was also instrumental in Bob’s participation in The Nations’ 9th of Av (https://9-av.com/).

This show also features a discussion on Offenses and Correction, a follow-up to the midrash Barry and David began in our last show, and the music of Eved Adonai and Solomon Lopez.

  • Bob O'Dell: Root Source, part 1

In this podcast, we begin a three-part visit with Bob O’Dell of Austin, Texas. Along with Gidon Ariel, Bob is co-founder of Root Source (https://root-source.com/), a ministry that helps Christians understand learn about Jewish concepts, ideas, and thought, to more deeply understand the roots of their faith. Bob shares with us not only about his connection with Root Source, but another initiative called The Nations’ 9th of Av (https://9-av.com/). This grew out of Bob’s work with Ray Montgomery in compiling The LIST: Persecution of Jews by Christians Throughout History, a groundbreaking document that is already becoming an important tool in healing the rift between Christians and Jews.

Will Spires and Bill Green are our musical guests this week and in our midrash portion David Jones and Barry Phillips addressing the Spirit of Offense.

  • Dillon Litchfield: A Young Man's Perspective

We travel to Greenville, South Carolina, this week to talk with Dillon Litchfield. This young professional is highly skilled in the mechanical arts, but as Dillon is quick to explain, his identity is in Messiah Yeshua. In obedience to Messiah’s call, he stepped into the unfamiliar role of video host on Torah United, the YouTube channel he started as an avenue for interviewing guests from all parts of the Torah Awakening. You might be surprised at the people he has talked with since walking out in faith on this adventure!

We are blessed once again with the musical talents of Miriam Houtz and WIll Spires. Miriam sings “I Will Wait” from her album Shadows, and Will performs “YaHoVah” from The Beauty of Holiness.

In our midrash portion, Elders David Jones and Barry Phillips discuss the incident of the golden calf. Sometimes we can all be guilty of creating in our own mind what we think God wants us to do. The golden calf episode reminds us that we all can create “golden calves” of ideas and call them YHVH.

  • Chad Perry: A Pastor's Heart, part 2

Pastor Chad Perry of Clearfork Baptist Church near Abilene, Texas is back with us this week, continuing the story of his walk with Yeshua. In this podcast, tells us about how Hurricane Katrina changed his life and the lives of many others in the church where he served in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is a story about what the people of God can do as the instruments of the Almighty’s peace in times of great need.

Kelly Ferrari Mills performs the first of our musical offerings this week, singing “Turn Your Eyes,” a song from her album Simple Songs of Scripture,  available at doorkeeperministries.com. Later, Melody Joy sings “Lift Up Your Hands” from her album The Beginning. You can hear more of Melody Joy’s music at https://www.youtube.com/@melodyjoywilliams.

Is prayer like incense? That’s a question our Elders David Jones and Barry Phillips investigate in their midrash on prayer in the second half of our show.

  • Chad Perry: A Pastor's Heart, part 1

Our destination this week is Abilene, Texas, where we meet Pastor Chad Perry of Clearfork Baptist Church. Is it possible to pastor in a Christian church and still practice a Torah walk in Messiah? Yes, it is possible, as Chad confirms. In fact, it was as a Baptist pastor that he began to understand the Torah principles our Messiah lived out. In this first segment of a two-part interview, Chad tells us of his lifelong walk with Yeshua that began as he grew up in Louisiana.

Along with Chad, we have musical guests Bill Green and Will Spires. Bill sings “The Road We Walk,” and Will performs “Who Are These,” one of the songs from his album The Return, available at KeyofDavidpublishing.com.

In the second half of our show, Elders David Jones and Barry Phillips encourage us to look above to the One who has all the answers!

  • Kim Trainer and Betsy Ruch: Fostering the Family, part 3

Our show this week opens with the third part of our interview with Kim Trainer and Betsy Ruch of York County, South Carolina. As we learned in the previous segments, Kim and Betsy established Fostering the Family (https://www.fosteringthefamily.org/) when they became aware of the tremendous need for children in the state’s foster system, and of the families who care for them. In this final segment, Betsy brings to our attention some of the statistics of people who have been in the foster care system. How many are in prison, or are single mothers, or in other dire straights? Those statistics are shocking, but the answer to these problems is right in front of us, as Kim and Betsy explain.

The featured musicians in this program are Miriam Houtz, performing “Hide Me Lord,” and Barry Philips and the Aleph Tav Band performing “Song of the Prophets.” You can hear Barry each Shabbat at House of David Congregation in Gloucester, Virginia.

As our listeners know, he is also a frequent contributor to our midrash portion. In this show, Barry again joins David Jones to discuss a question from Scripture. Their topic this week is, “Who did God give the Torah to?” If you’ve been in this walk for a while, you have probably asked this question already, but you may not be aware of the perspective Barry and David bring.

We would love to hear from you! If you have questions or comments, please contact us at [email protected].

  • Kim Trainer and Betsy Ruch: Fostering the Family, part 2

This week we return to York County, South Carolina, to continue our conversation with Kim Trainer and Betsy Ruch, co-founders of Fostering the Family (https://www.fosteringthefamily.org/). What exactly is the need for foster care, and why should churches and synagogues and fellowships be involved in meeting that need? This is what Kim and Betsy help us understand in this second part of a three-part interview.

Bill Green then joins us to present his original song “In The End,” and later on we hear “Return,” by Solomon Lopez. To hear more of Solomon’s music, visit his YouTube channel, hebraism.org.

Elders Barry Phillips and David Jones share with us a midrash about staying true to our call. As Barry says, “We need to believe in Him who believes in us.” It is our hope and prayer that you will be challenged and encouraged by this discussion.

  • Kim Trainer and Betsy Ruch: Fostering the Family, part 1

Our first show of 2019 goes to York County, South Carolina, just across the state line from Charlotte, North Carolina. We have the blessing to visit with Kim Trainer and Betsy Ruch, co-founders of Fostering the Family (https://www.fosteringthefamily.org/). This unique ministry is dedicated to helping foster and adoptive families by igniting the Body of Messiah Yeshua to build care communities to support and love these families. This is the first of a three-part interview that delves into many important, yet overlooked, issues – including the need to partner with churches and Christian ministries who are engaged in obeying the commandment of our Messiah to love others.

Our musical selections are "Seeds" Will Spires and "We Want to Go Home" by Mason Clover.

The midrash portion this week follows up on that agricultural motif of Will’s song as Elders David Jones and Barry Phillips discuss sowing seeds and reaping. Are we sowing into the lives of those around us? What kind of seeds are we allowing to be sown into our own life? There are many points to contemplate in this discussion as we navigate our way through the road to our ultimate family reunion!

We would love to hear from you! If you have questions or comments, please contact us at [email protected].

  • Justin and Laura McCullough: First Nations Restoration, part 2

In our last show for 2018, we complete our interview with Justin and Laura McCollough from Ellijay, Georgia. The McCulloughs continue sharing with us about the reconciliation that needs to take place with First Nations people in the State of Georgia, and the Resolution of Apology meeting held in Woodstock, Georgia.

We are blessed to feature the First Nations pioneers of worship music Broken Walls, whose first song is “Clearly Hear His Voice,” from the album Clearly Hear His Voice, and the song “Wenhniseri:io” from Ride the Wind, available at brokenwalls.com.

David Jones and Barry Phillips share with us a midrash entitled “Perception.” They discuss 1 Corinthians 12 from the perspective of how we communicate our understanding of Scripture with others. Do we communicate it with the idea that “I am right and everyone else is wrong?” How do we get along with others who disagree with us? We pray this discussion will challenge you to maintain a teachable spirit in your life.
