In episode 10, we unpack a life long journey of a legend in the Christian music world. Jimmy Abegg has played guitar for many different artists including Charlie Peacock, Rich Mullens and the Ragamuffin band, and Steve Taylor and the Perfect Foil. He is a very talented painter and photographer as well. In this episode, we talk about his journey in music and the arts, his inspiration, and wisdom for the next generation of musicians and artists. Something that we didn't mention in the interview is Jimmy's diagnosis with Macular Degeneration. He is losing his eye sight. Many of his friends are putting together a benefit for him and are trying to raise $65,000 to build an art studio in Jimmy's backyard since he can no longer drive. We've captured a ton of fantastic interviews that we can't wait to share, but it's time... for a DAY OFF.

Taking a day off can be the hardest thing to do for some people. For others, taking a "day on" would probably be a better idea. But if we're looking at our week in Reverse, we have realized how important it is to rest. In order to stay inspired and stay creative, we have to give our brains a break and just chill. 

Some might say, "I don't have the time to take a day off", but we're not saying that. You must MAKE the time to take a day off. It doesn't happen by itself. It's a choice. If you're hitting a wall, losing your creativity, or feeling tired, take a day off! It will not only help you creatively, but I'm sure the people that are closest to you will really appreciate it as well.

In episode 8, we dive into the life of a professional musician that has toured the globe, been a part of over 16 albums, and spent the last 22 years with the same band; the one and only, Jeff Frankenstein. Contrary to what you might think, his last name really is Frankenstein. Jeff is the keyboardist, music director, and 22 year member of the Christian Rock Band - The Newsboys. Jeff moved to Nashville to join the band in 1994 and has been with them ever since. He shares the ups and downs of being a full-time musician and what it takes to stay inspired and to inspire through what he does every day. Jeff is one the nicest, most knowledgeable guys in the business and has done everything from programming, running light shows in arenas, directing the band and all of the moving parts, to guest speaking about the music industry at Trevecca University in Nashville. He has toured the world and still loves what he gets to do every single day. Get ready to be inspired. We caught Jeff right before his soundcheck while on the 2016 Rock and Worship Roadshow Tour. As creative people, we're always looking for inspiration. We need to constantly stay inspired in order to create things that inspire others. Last week, we discussed what creativity is, but once that is established we find out quickly that there has to be something else in the equation. The best creative ideas come from a deeper place than just off the top of your head. 

The best creative ideas come from people that create with purpose. The "why" is even more important than what is being created. This looks different for everyone, but if we look deep inside of ourselves we can find that thing that drives us and keeps us creating.

In Eposide 6, we dive into the creative process with Chris Bartels. Chris is an extremely talented producer, songwriter, and mix engineer based in Minneapolis, MN. We had the opportunity to sit down with him and discuss some of his current projects, his songwriting process, the gear he uses, and how he stays inspired. If you've ever had thoughts about giving up on what you love, you're not alone. We all tend to struggle with some form of insecurity as artists. It's natural. The way we handle that insecurity determines the future of our work and who we become as creative people. Chris shares about a time when he felt down on his own work as well as his call to pursue music and producing as a career. Sometimes encouragement comes in ways that we least expect. Based in Minneapolis, Chris has written, produced, and released a number of different projects of multiple styles. Currently, he releases albums as Bora York, Elskavon, Hi-Fi Cali, Vitamin June, and under his own name.
