All believers are called to be ministers of God’s word.  He’s entrusted it to each of us to share with others so they may believe and be saved.  It’s a lifesaving message, full of hope, life, and peace. There is no such thing as a perfect church.  But there were, in the bible, some churches that stood out as great examples to emulate.  Today, Pastor John will describe the attributes of a good, strong church – the church in Thessalonica.  It was clear to Paul that there was a great work of the Holy Spirit happening here.  The good news of the gospel had changed these believers!  They believed deeply in God, loved God and others, and had an expectant hope for the second coming of Christ.

If you were going to start a movement, you’d likely choose a team of powerful, influential and smart folks.  After all, your success is determined by the skills of your team.  This isn’t the direction Jesus took when choosing His followers.  Today, Pastor John will describe some of the men Jesus chose and how that should give you, and I hope.  He called ordinary and flawed men who were devoted and faithful and desired to serve Him.  God will choose and use you if you follow Him faithfully and want to be used by Him.

Some may ask the question – why did Jesus have to come to earth as a man?  Today, Pastor John will touch on a few reasons that Jesus came that glorious night.  He came to reveal God to mankind so that we can know and have a relationship with God.  He also came to redeem man from their sin.  Adam brought sin into the world, and God cannot be near sin.  It had to be paid for.  So, Jesus came to take the punishment all sinners deserved and offer us salvation.  He was the only one worthy and had to be the sacrifice for us.

Sin brought great darkness into the world at creation.  Yet, God wasn’t done with us at that moment.  Instead, He, at the perfect time, sent His son Jesus to be born as a man to save humanity.  And Pastor John explains today how that night in the stable is the greatest night of all time.  It was the night that the Light of God entered our world to bring light to the darkness, dispel the evil of sin, and bring anyone who’d believe into His light.  He’s the only one able to bring light into the darkness.

Frequently, in the course of Daniel’s life of exile in Babylon, he was faced with situations that tested his faith.  And whenever he was told to do something that contradicted God’s commands or will, he bravely resisted.  Today, Pastor John will explain how Daniel purposed in his heart from the beginning to obey and follow God with his whole heart and whole life.   Even if that meant he’d be thrown to the lions.  Don’t compromise with the edicts of man!  Obey God above this!

When you’re a believer in Christ, you should stand out in the world in how you live.  Because of your faith, you should have integrity, high moral standards, and overall, seek to live as Jesus lived.  When you’re living above reproach, you often are admired, trusted, and respected by important people, much like Daniel was. But, as Pastor John will point out today, this may cause unbelievers to envy and dislike you.   Don’t let that dissuade you from living rightly!  Stay faithful, strong, and dependable like Daniel.

The world, as it is, doesn’t recognize sin as sin, and people, in their broken state don’t think they need saving.  Yet, as Pastor John teaches today, the Holy Spirit will work on the hearts of unbelievers to begin to recognize sin and their need for salvation.  He can soften hearts, convict of sin, and draw even the most hardened people to repentance and faith.  So if you feel the Spirit’s conviction or tug, respond!  Turn to Christ in repentance and believe in Him, trusting in His sacrifice for you, and you’ll be saved!
