Before you were a believer in Christ, you were a slave to sin.  It held you, and it mastered you.  But, as a believer, Christ has freed you from that bondage.  He set you free so that you’d live in His freedom.  Today, Pastor John will encourage you to stand firm in this freedom that Christ has given you.  Don’t fall back into legalism to the law or back into sin.  Neither of these brings life.  Stand firm and resolute in Christ.  No method of human skill or ability that can redeem you from sin! It is only through faith in Him.

Some people believe that following your own truth and being a good person will get you to Heaven.  Some think that sincere belief in any god is enough to get you there.  The Jews in the early church thought their ancestry in Abraham and obeying laws saved them. When hard things happen in life, it’s tempting to feel like God’s lost control or doesn’t care about you anymore.  You may pray over a certain situation or problem and it never seems to go away.  But this, Pastor John explains, is all part of God’s plan for your life and faith.  He allows tragedy, ailments, and suffering in your life to keep you reliant upon Him, draw you closer to Himself, and increase and expand your faith in Him.  In difficulties, rest on God’s grace and provision and trust Him every moment.

As a believer, you’re saved by God’s grace, redeemed from eternal separation from God, and you’re now a child of God through your faith.  So, Pastor John explains today, don’t try to work for your salvation or add to it by doing the works of the law.  Instead of growing your faith or bringing you closer to God, these rites and rituals of religion decrease your faith and pull you away from God and His grace.   Instead, you must humble yourself and trust God’s grace alone!

Today’s world is full of categories, distinctions, and levels of status among people.  Some are more valued than others.  Some people groups are even despised or ignored.  Yet, as Pastor John teaches today, everyone is valued, loved, and equally important in God’s family.  He created each person to be unique and distinct, but as His child, you’re no less or more important than another.  All people are equal, accepted, and forgiven in God’s presence by placing your faith in what Jesus did on the cross.

Adam and Eve brought sin into the world right after creation.  And every one after was born into this sinful state of humanity.  You’re a child of Adam, a sinner.  But, as Pastor John teaches today, if you place your faith in Jesus and believe in His work on the cross, you’re no longer part of Adam’s sinful family, but are now adopted by God into HIS family.  You’re now holy and redeemed!  And as God’s child, you can immediately enjoy the benefits and blessings of being in His family. The law was given by God to define and reveal sin and to point people to their need for a Savior.  And once Jesus came, he did what the law couldn’t do – redeem, justify and save sinners.   Yet, as Pastor John teaches today, this doesn’t mean you can live however you want, ignoring God’s commands and desires for your life.  As a believer, you’ve got the Holy Spirit in you, guiding and directing you to live holy lives.  The law no longer condemns you; it now, through the spirit guides you in life.

Earthly covenants are made between two people hoping to gain from an agreement and are conditional until they’re fulfilled.  The covenant God made with Abraham, on the other hand, was divine, eternal, and unconditional.   All Abraham had to do was to believe.  And today, Pastor John will encourage you to receive God’s promises by faith, like Abraham.  Believe what the bible tells you about salvation and grace and the cross of Christ.  Put your faith in God, who will never fail to keep His promises.

Do you frequently try and try to be good and obey God’s law yet recognize how futile and impossible it is to be perfect? Trying to live up to God’s holy standards is quite hopeless.  But, Pastor John has great hope for you today.  God knew you could not save yourself from sin, so He sent Jesus to take the punishment and the curse upon Himself to save you.  Your salvation can’t be found in obedience to the law, but only through faith in Jesus.  Is your faith in Jesus today?
