Paul had been a Christian for nearly 30 years and had been on the road sharing the gospel message for 20. He had not forgotten that at one time, he had persecuted and tried to destroy Christians, yet he obtained the mercy of God. He says, "And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus." And these are the beautiful, powerful and life-changing words we experience as Christians: Grace, mercy, faith and love! In Paul’s letter to Timothy he first addresses his concern regarding the false teachers who had come into the church at Ephesus. Certain people were devoting themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Paul says, “Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God's work--which is by faith." We learn today that we must be careful to not get sidetracked from the simplicity of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We must focus on solid teaching and the powerful truth of the Word of God. In chapter one Paul tells Timothy, "When I left for Macedonia, I urged you to stay there in Ephesus and stop those whose teaching is contrary to the truth." This epistle, is the first of three books that are known as the Pastoral Epistles. They were written by Paul to two young pastors, Timothy and Titus. In verse 34, Paul asks the question, "Who is he who condemns?” We know it is not Jesus, because He love us so much that He died for us. Condemnation is the work of Satan. The Holy Spirit may convict us of sin, but the purpose is to draw us to God. Paul goes on to say, “It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us." God is for us. Jesus died for us.
