In this episode, I have the pleasure of being joined my Dr. Spencer Blackman. Dr. Spencer Blackman has been working in outpatient physical therapy for six years after graduating from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2016 with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Before that, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Slippery Rock University with his Bachelor's in Exercise Science.
Spencer is a lifelong athlete who has training in performance and sport-specific enhancement and rehabilitation. He has additional experience in personal training and cardiac rehabilitation.
Spencer’s true passion lies in working with and treating patients suffering from chronic pain and conditions. He has spent the last three years of practice focused on learning how all aspects of the nervous system influence pain, recovery, and chronic mobility problems, as well as the ways to positively impact them. He has adapted the mechanisms of pain science interventions (laterality training and graded motor imagery) into a treatment system that targets the originating sources of chronic pain. He is trained in Autonomic Awareness Training (AAT) and Blomberg Rhythmic Movement Training (BRMT). He hopes to continue pioneering cutting-edge ways to resolve chronic pain through his research interests into chronic neurological conditions and the science of pain interpretation and protective responses.
In this episode, we dive into how histamines impact they nervous system and the role they play in chronic pain and eating disorders.

(16:43) Histamine's role as a modulator of the nervous system.
(19:30) How diet impacts histamine release.
(21:35) Physical symptoms from an exaggerated histamine response.
(24:14) Eating disorders and the impacts of histamines and the subconscious mind.
