At the beginning of a year there is a sense of new beginnings to make things different and better in our lives. It is absurd for us to think that we can approach God and seek forgiveness and that He will freely give it to us while at the same time we withhold forgiveness from someone who has wronged us. We must, by the power of His Spirit, forgive others no matter how evil the grievance and let it go.

No matter how good we try to be or how much we can clean up our lives, our own goodness will never be good enough to save ourselves from the consequence of death for sin. Jesus came to pay in full, taking our unrighteousness on Himself and giving us His righteousness. Now, only because of Him, we can be just before God.

Our sin brings on difficulties in our lives because of consequence and God’s discipline. God will use those difficulties to get our attention and draw us to repentance. Rather than waiting and making things worse, we need to go to Him and repent, essentially telling Satan to go away.

There are so many different elements of the Gospel story that would have to be ignored because of how much proves that Christ truly was the anointed Son of God who died to take away the sins of the world. It is not bad to question things, but at some point we have to believe what the Bible says or else claim that the whole thing is a hoax.
