  • Richard Skipper Celebrates the release of Something Borrowed Something Blue
“Her voice is the voice of the fountain of youth and her musical spirit lets you drink -- from her voice, from her dance, from her spirit. And Jenny Burton becomes Isis incarnate.” ~Laurence Holder, Routes Magazine Jenny Burton had a long and varied career as a superb vocalist working successfully in Dance Music, R&B, Gospel and Inspirational Music. In the late 80s and early 90s Burton had four national number one R&B/Dance hits -- "One More Shot," rose to Billboard's number five slot and led to Burton's first major-label solo deal. Atlantic Records released her first LP, "In Black & White," which included the hit single, “I Remember What You Like". “Bad Habits,” off her second album was a #1 dance hit in America and rose to #12 on the R&B charts. She has to her credits as well two gold records from films -- Harry Belafonte's Beat Street and White Nights starring Gregory Hines and Mikhail Baryshnikov. Moving more into an Inspirational direction, she created with producer/composer Peter Link, The Jenny Burton Experience, an award winning Inspirational group ran for seven years to sold out standing room only audiences at New York City's "Don't Tell Mama". The Jenny Burton Experience also opened at Trump Marina for Al Green, performed with The Gap Band and Morris Day and The Times at The Indianapolis Black Expo for 80,000 people, opened for Stevie Wonder at Lincoln Center in NYC, and completed a one month run headlining at Resorts International in Atlantic City, the first Gospel group to ever headline in Atlantic City. Then she went away for 17 years and worked on Wall Street.

  • Richard Skipper's Friday the 13th Wrap Up! Are you Superstitious?
t's Friday the 13th and we all know what that means — unlucky occurrences like tripping over your shoelaces, knocking over glasses, and waking up after your alarm are just a few of the possible horrors the superstitious among us believe are likely to happen on this infamously bad luck ridden day. Whatever you do on that day, don't walk under a ladder, cross paths with a black cat, or break a mirror!
There's no telling what tragedy could result. What gives on this weird superstition? No, it doesn't have anything to do with the Knights Templar. Historically, 13 has long been considered an unlucky number. There also developed the idea of Friday being unlucky. Then Thomas Lawson combined them in his 1907 novel Friday the Thirteenth, and popular culture took over from there. It happens when the 13th day of the month falls on a Friday, which can happen up to three times in a year. There are only two Friday the 13ths in 2023 and we got the first out of the way on Jan. 13. Many people have mixed feelings about this specific date and view it as an unlucky day, especially if they’re superstitious. However, if you’re someone who fully embraces the day’s spooky vibes with open arms, you’ll need a Friday the 13th wrap up to caption all your hauntingly wonderful vibes. Are you superstitious? A superstition is a belief or practice that is considered irrational or supernatural by non-practitioners. Superstitions are often related to: Luck, Amulets, Astrology, Fortune telling, Spirits. Superstitions can result from: Ignorance Fear of the unknown Trust in magic or chance A false conception of causation A notion maintained despite evidence to the contrary Barb Bailey: https://www.facebook.com/barb.bailey.395669
