Rick Brown

Doesn't hope sometimes feel impossible, as if your situation is too far gone and past remedy? In Luke 24, Pastor Rick walks us through three powerful transformations that began on resurrection Sunday—transformations that reveal the unstoppable power available to every believer today. Through testimony, gentle rebuke, patient teaching, and stunning self-revelation, Jesus turned his followers' despairing mourning into a dedicated mission.

The same resurrection power that rolled away the stone, raised Jesus from death, and transformed these ordinary people on that extraordinary Sunday still operates today—and according to Ephesians 1:19-20, that "immeasurable greatness of His power" is directed "toward us who believe." What seems impossible in your life today is an opportunity for resurrection power to do what only God can.

Have you ever wondered how the darkest moment in history became the brightest hope for humanity? In Luke 23, Pastor Rick takes us through what can only be described as a spiritual supernova—the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, where the brilliance of God's redemptive love exploded into our dark world with universe-altering power.

Positioned between two criminals, Jesus became the focal point of all human history, offering forgiveness even to the very men who nailed his wrists to the cross. One of these thieves gives us a powerful example of the heart of salvation: believing and receiving, not earning and deserving, but being transformed from the inside out through Christ's power. Like a supernova, Jesus' sinless life shone with blinding perfection; His sacrifice became a black hole consuming the penalty of our sin; and the aftermath scattered the grace of His perfect love across all generations, reaching even to us today.

Fresh Love Series - Part 63 • Luke 22:63-23:26 • Pastor Rick Brown at Dayspring Church in Star, Idaho

Have you ever wondered why an innocent man would willingly walk a path of such brutal injustice, or why God would allow His own Son to endure such horrific treatment? In Luke 22 and 23, we witness the excruciating journey of Jesus from arrest to crucifixion—a road paved with every form of human evil and rejection, yet walked with divine purpose.

Through six devastating scenes, Pastor Rick shows the vile, ungodly responses of those Jesus encounters. Yet in the midst of this darkness, God orchestrates a beautiful picture of redemption: Simon of Cyrene, compelled to carry Jesus' cross, becomes so transformed by this encounter that his sons are later known figures in the early church. This brutal road reveals the depths of human sin and the greater depths of divine love—Jesus endured every form of rejection, violence, and injustice not because He deserved it, but because you and I did, and He willingly took our place so that we might be elevated from condemned criminals to beloved children of God.

How do we still constantly make bad decisions even when we're warned beforehand? In Luke 22:31-62, Pastor Rick outlines the profound lessons in Peter's painful experiences around the crucifixion. While Jesus prepared for His greatest sacrifice, Peter was arguing, relaxing his guard, and failing to do the right thing at the right time.

His three denials teach us that overconfidence in our own strength sets us up for devastating failure. Yet Peter's story doesn't end in shame—when the rooster crowed, he remembered Jesus' words and wept bitterly, demonstrating true repentance. This passage calls us to honest self-examination: recognize your propensity toward the same patterns of pride and poor choices. Only when we see our desperate need can we fully appreciate the magnitude of Christ's sacrifice and walk forward in humble, Spirit-empowered obedience.

How do some Christians spiral into disaster while others remain joyful through every trial? In Luke 22, we witness the ultimate contrast between beauty and the beast—Jesus choosing his Father's will and Judas choosing betrayal. The devil prowls seeking to destroy us through small compromises that grow into life-altering decisions.

Judas didn't wake up planning to betray Christ; he opened the door through greed, dead religion instead of relationships, and choosing temporary gratification over eternal truth. Meanwhile, Jesus demonstrates the way of beauty—sacrificial love, authentic communion, and surrendered obedience. Every day we face the same choice: will we walk the way of the beast, living for the moment, choosing darkness over light? Or will we choose the way of beauty, allowing faith to transform our thoughts into righteous actions?

What if we could be prepared for the future, knowing God has a plan, no matter the craziness of the future? In Luke 21, Jesus teaches His disciples to develop 20/20 vision of faith through spiritual situational awareness. Looking back at fulfilled prophecies like Jerusalem's destruction in 70 AD evidences the Scriptures' reliability. Looking forward to the signs Jesus described—distress among nations and His ultimate return—shows us future events will fit God's sovereign timeline.

Pastor Rick encourages us to look up with hope, keeping our hearts anchored in eternity rather than earthly anxieties, and look around with discernment at the signs unfolding today, remaining watchful and prayerful. This passage isn't about fear or setting a date for these events; it's about recognizing God's prophetic fingerprints throughout history and standing firm in the confidence that heaven and earth will pass away, but His words never will.

Where do you place your spiritual allegiance? In John 15:1-11, Jesus uses the metaphor of the vine and branches to reveal a fundamental truth about Christian life: we must choose between the true vine (Christ) and false vines that promise life but deliver only death and destruction. Through this intimate teaching on His final night before crucifixion, Jesus shows us that as branches, we cannot bear fruit apart from Him—we must abide in the true vine to produce the fruit of love, joy, peace, and faithfulness that glorifies the Father.

The key to authentic Christian living lies in understanding that we are made to be branches, not vines—designed for spiritual dependence and allegiance to Christ. When we abide in Him and His words abide in us, we align our will with His will, bear fruit that reveals God's glory, and experience the joy that comes from fulfilling our created purpose.

Pastor Rick Brown of Dayspring Church delivers a moving tribute honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, who was tragically assassinated during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Through heartfelt stories and personal pictures, Pastor Brown captures behind-the-scenes moments while sharing a message that reflected on Kirk as both a Christian martyr and "a true American hero who meant the world to so many of us."

In the wake of this tragic murder that has shaken the nation, many are struggling with how to respond to such profound loss. Pastor Brown turns to Scripture, drawing from 2 Samuel 1:17-27, where King David provides a biblical guideline for deep, meaningful grief. David responded to the deaths of Saul and his son Jonathan by honoring them in the way he knew best.

Rick emphasizes that Charlie fully lived for Christ, preaching the gospel only seconds before his final breath. "Though we grieve deeply and honor his life, our hope is in Jesus alone," he shares. He reminds listeners that regardless of their calling, all can glorify God through their lives, persevering toward the day they might hear the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord.”

Rick and the Dayspring family continue to pray for God's peace to comfort Charlie's family and for believers to be emboldened to carry forward God's torch of truth. Charlie Kirk's legacy lives on through every life he touched and continues to inspire people to stand stronger for what is right.
