I first became aware of Lisa when a video of her went viral (I'm talking over 15 million views in just a few days). Then, I learned she goes to the same church as me and it wasn't long before we were friends!

Lisa opens up completely about all the things that have tried to defeat her in life and the list is quite lengthy: miscarriage as a teenager, abortion, drugs - lots of them, hoe-ing around (a lot), suicides, and a wide variety of death and dysfunction.

And now, at 50 years old, Lisa is the most enthusiastic and encouraging person in the room, a mom, a mentor, an advocate for the LGBTQ community, and an incredible woman of God. You can't miss this- she is truly one of a kind.

Now, two year later, I have a really clear picture of how deeply her loss impacted me. I think about her everyday still but have a duller pain than I did initially. BUT - last night, as I undertook a home yoga practice for the first time in a VERY long time, I gained more understanding about myself, loss, resiliency, and being present with both pain and joy.

Our challenge is to be fully present with our pain, without being overtaken by it.

Amanda is known by many in the community as "the pastor's wife"-- but she is SO much more than that. I love that Amanda is as human as anyone else I meet every day. I admire her simultaneous faith and humanness and how she shows up for people - not because she's "a pastor's wife" but because she loves people... no judgement, no conditions, just loves people.

She is a treasure as a friend to me, and to our family, and our church and community are so fortunate to have her doing life with us!
