We all have “that friend.” The one who comes to us in earnest, asking for advice. But when we give them our advice, they don’t take it.
So they talk to another friend, who gives them the same advice, which they don’t take. Then on to the next friend, and then the next friend, until they finally find someone who says what they want to hear.
It’s easy to criticize this person for only listening to what they want to hear.
But how often do we do that with God?
The portion of Psalm 23 we come to this week teaches us to listen and trust that God will tell us what we need to hear, even if it isn’t always what we want to hear.
