Far too many preppier channels are profiting on fear mongering, raising stress in the population and therefore causing far more harm than any of their preparations would solve.  They simply are attempting to provide information and shows that will raise revenue, subscribers, Ad revenue and otherwise improve their bottom line.  Now profiting of your skills is the very essence of capitalism and is not the issue, utilizing your strengths to play on fear in an effort to capitalize on that fear through improved financial positions is wrong.  So, how do you understand what their "lens" is?  What are they NOT saying, where are they to gain, who are the players and understanding their individual bias is necessary to truly wrap your head around the logic behind the last two weeks of Chicken Little on YouTube.  Finishing off with a chat on the ways to express yourself without having to fall into the Twitter, Instagram and Facebook trap of thumb wars - its all yelling out there now and very little constructive thought.  Just my thoughts !

A slight change of focus, but necessary as there is too much hype in the preparedness community about inflation and the terror it will bring.  This is reality, a bit of a boring but necessary explanation of what inflation is, how it is created and how the government acts to lower inflation.  No politics, just facts on how this happens.  Then a short but important reflection on how this will affect your preparedness plans, how this will influence your ability to pivot when disruption occurs and what this means.  So, lets sit back, listen and hopefully I can de-mystify how money works and offer a few suggestions on how you might mitigate these issues.  As always, your feedback is always welcome.  Please continue to support this podcast by spreading the word.   Inflation is coming, at 3-5% maximum for no more than one year, but this will have an impact on those who are living at the margins - who barely make the money stretch to meet the minimum bills every month.  So if you or your loved ones are in that precarious place, have a listen.  Remember, you are responsible for your outcomes.

Too many "experts" are selling the notion that the global and North American supply chains are at risk of collapse and therefore a pending catastrophe for food and necessities.  This pandemic has caused disruptions in corporate supply chains, as have recent geo-political issues across the globe.  In this episode, we explain why food supply chains and other necessities will NOT collapse, there is no food-apocalypse coming and attempt to dial down the noise created for profit and praise.  North America is a net exporter of food, to the tune of a factor of 1.6, meaning that in times of existential crisis, there remains enough food in NA to feed all the population.  Hence, there is a near zero chance that there will be starvation in Mexico, Canada and the US - contrary to what you have been peddled across social media.  I offer a short discussion on supply chains, talk about toilet paper and energy, all to ensure that you can take a deep breath and realize that you will have food to eat, TP for the bathroom and other necessities.  No panic required - sorry to those fear paddlers on YouTube, you got this one wrong.

72 hrs, 60 days, one year?  How much or how far should your preparedness supplies reach out?  When do you have enough and how do I determine what is the correct set of parameters for my family?  This week we consider the most important question after you decide to become responsible for your outcomes - how long should I be self-sufficient for?  This is about building your self reliance.  We cover: government messaging, who are you responsible for, where are they located, do you trust the government and do you define yourself as a follower or do you think for yourself?  
Then we discuss self confidence, personal risk tolerance and planning for the most likely and the most dangerous hazards.  The world is a difficult place, you may be comfortable in your current location, but remember this is a connected world and a shooting war in the South China Sea will lead to significant impacts on your life - so consider preparedness in its complete form, relevant to all aspects of your life.

This week is emergency preparedness week in Canada, the one week a year where the government attempts to focus your attention on their ideals and suggestions about preparedness.  This week's episode takes a non-sheep approach to the tag line - be prepared for anything.  This is a poor choice of wording and while it may be build on a foundation of encouraging citizens to consider the hazards that are in their area and begin to prepare for those situations, it is more than likely going to turn off more radios than on.  To be prepared for anything is to consider everything - that alone is a key message that throughout academic works, books and expert advice is an absolute no-no.  Focussing citizens on achievable goals, working towards a more resilient community - those are the outcomes governments should be working towards.  It is popular today for the government to be announcing decisions that are grounded in the best science, advocate for by the experts in the field.  However, they systematically ignore the very same advice for preparedness, avoiding the evidence and encouraging behaviours that do not improve outcomes.  Have a listen, comment and enjoy!

This episode is about thinking how preparedness and travel come together.  As the world will eventually emerge from this pandemic and restore some basic travel, maybe even total global excursions, how do we embrace that possibility while remaining prepared.  If you have 60 days of supply in your house, you cannot take that on an airplane - so what are the best moves for you to consider to ensure an incredible vacation and personal security.  How do you pack the car for a road trip in these times?  How much should go into your car?  Should we all travel with out go / bug out bags.  We don't want preparedness to keep us at home - in that we are afraid to leave our preps and travel, that creates a burden and places you in preparedness prison.  A place where you become so paranoid about the world, that you actively choose to never spend a night away from your home, in order to ensure that you always have access to your well stocked bunker.  Get out there, live....

A fun episode, for all those living at 100 MPH who don't have time to consider our 12 step plan and still wish to just buy some stuff to be better prepared.  We discuss what are the simplistic realistic things for home, car and evacuation.  Simple, but necessary in a modern developed and connected world.  No bug out bags here, no saws, canned food, axes, shelters, sleeping bags et al, nope - just what you need to manage through the minor chaos of life - and still win that Twitter or Instagram fight with hours of battery life to spare.  So grab a beverage and listen.

Continuing our discussion on emergency preparedness, this week we offer some thoughts on those disruptions the are not fixed after the first 72 hours.  The utilities do not come back on, or whatever element of critical infrastructure that has failed.  What is your plan for after that government recommended 72 hour kit is expired?  Have you a community plan, do you know your neighbours enough to put together a collective response?  Do you have strong social bonds with others upon which you can rely when the chips are down?  How long have you decided to be prepared for?  21, 45, 60 days?  While everyone wants to be prepared for everything, the reality is that there needs to be a timeframe around what you do - food, water, energy and equipment for how long?  The best recommendation is at least 21 days, for if society has failed to restart after 21 days, there might be some more significant issues to consider.  Finally, what happens after your planning horizon has expired - if you plan for 60 days, what is your intent on day 61?  Food for thought, join in on the discussion.

A quick reminder that preparedness is cheap, simple and easy for everyone to embrace.  When we consider the basic animalistic requirements of the human species and the fact that they are readily available everywhere in the developed world, then we cannot use the financial excuse as a barrier to becoming prepared.  It is a question of your own self-reliance, how much of your needs do you wish someone else to be responsible for and what percentage will you deliver?  That is a basic question to ask, reflecting on the simple survival priorities and you have a solution.  An old bag by the front door with some photocopies of documents and you have the evacuation kit that you hope you never have to use.  Or simply look around you, you have everything you need for survival, just make sure you know where it is and you have sufficient amounts to meet your family needs.  Take some time to be informed of what your fellow humans are facing around the world, there is hunger and strife that need not happen.
