Thrive Virginia uses person-centered and collaborative services to empower those fighting poverty to achieve individualized prosperity and community connections.
Lawson Craighill works with kids and teens who've experienced domestic and/or sexual violence as one of Thrive's child counselors. She decided to pursue her master's in clinical mental health counseling after working in a shelter in D.C. and seeing not only the need for support, but the lack of accessible services.
The fact that Thrive has built their entire Domestic Violence & Sexual Violence program around equality and accessibility was originally one of the things that drew her to the organization.
Today we discussed the impacts of trauma on developing brains, how social media is impacting mental health and the potential for health problems to be at a higher risk based on higher ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Scores.

National Senior Independence Month is observed every year in February. This month allows senior citizens and community members to share resources that help the elderly live independent and full lives.
Sarah Bradley shares some of the things that help make it possible for Richmonds elderly residents to live their best lives. This includes a great resourse for taxes, transportation, caregiver services and government benefits as well as the options at Wilton Construction like widening commercial and residential entryway doors for walkers, stretchers or wheelchairs, building wheelchair ramps, constructing barrier free or walk-in showers and installing grab bars or handrails throughout the home.
These simple and cost effective options can truly mean creating an environment to thrive for you or your loved one.

Jess spoke with Sarah Matalavage about her newly formed nonprofit, that will be providing books to children & promoting childhood literacy this summer.
Sarah believes that it is important to have access to books early on in life during a critical part of development, as it sets the foundation for a love of reading and a life of learning.
The Enchanting Bookmobile aims to get books into the hands of children in neighborhoods of the greater Richmond area.
Sarah saw a need in many of our Richmond communities and she did something about it. We can't wait to see this bus rollin and your contributions would really help!!
