River Northwest Church

We face choices every day, but God hasn’t left us to make them alone. Choosing life reaches beyond our first decision to follow Jesus into the way we prepare our hearts, respond to people, and consider where our daily decisions are taking us. His Word gives us wisdom, His mercy gives us a way forward after a poor choice, and His Holy Spirit guides us into truth as we seek Him in prayer.

Circumstances may still be difficult, but we can trust His direction without being paralyzed by fear, keep growing in faith, and remain steady through the storm.

We don’t have to wait for the trial to end before we rejoice. 1 Peter chapter 1 reminds us that through Jesus we’ve been born again into a living hope and an inheritance that cannot be corrupted. That gives us a reason to trust God under pressure and let Him deal with the wrong attitudes that surface, rather than holding on to offense. As we yield to His Spirit and obey His Word, we can come through the trial with stronger faith and live in the holiness He has called us to.

Jesus prayed that we would know the Father loves us as He loves His Son. The cross established that love before we had anything to offer in return: Christ gave Himself to reconcile us to the Father. We can receive His love with confidence because our assurance rests in what He has done for us.

The Holy Spirit has poured that love into our hearts so we can live from the nature of Christ. His Word brings light to the attitudes and reactions that need to change. Receiving His correction is part of growing in love; His mercy calls us out of sin and His Spirit empowers us to obey Him.

Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. We can carry that assurance into our relationships through forgiveness, patience, and a willingness to seek another person’s good.

Guarding the heart is part of stewarding the life God has given us. His Word keeps the fire on the altar burning and trains us to recognize offense, false teaching, misplaced expectations, and careless speech before they choke what He planted. A clean heart stays teachable, casts its cares on the Lord, trusts His thoughts of peace, and lets Him scrub the hidden places until springs of life come through the mouth. Faithful stewards keep growing, keep serving, and let the Word they carry flow outward into their homes, church, work, and schools.

Leviticus 6 says the fire on the altar must never go out, and that altar points to the believer’s heart. God lights the fire, and we keep it burning by staying in the Word, praying, and yielding to the Holy Ghost. Prayer builds faith, strengthens the Church, and brings believers into agreement with God’s eternal purpose. We do not have to wait for pressure or persecution to burn for Jesus; we can choose now to live a life of fire.

God has good plans for us, but we still have a responsibility to tend what He has entrusted to us. Like a neglected vineyard that fills with thorns and loses its walls, our hearts need regular attention, not just a clean appearance on the outside. Keeping His Word before us, asking Him to examine our motives, and obeying in the areas we would rather avoid help us become faithful stewards. When He points out something that needs to change, we can receive His help and act without settling into condemnation.

God’s plans for us are good, but we have to seek Him with our whole heart and say yes to what He has called us to do. Like a butterfly breaking out of its cocoon, we cannot stay inside the comfortable mold we have grown used to. Psalm 139 reminds us that we were wonderfully made with purpose, so shame and self-doubt cannot have the final word. Jesus refused every attempt to pull Him away from the Father’s will; we need the Word in our hearts and godly people around us as we follow Him.

God the Father is calling us to a place of reconciliation and restoration, whether we identify more with the elder brother or the prodigal.
