When someone is resuscitated from a life-threatening condition, you will still recognize that person.When Jesus died & was resurrected, he was not immediately recognized. Something in Him had beentransformed. The same is true for us; that which separates us from God must die before we can be resurrected and transformed.

Jonah was angry with God for sparing the Ninevites; he would not show the grace to themthat God had shown him. God used the vine & the worm to show Jonah that He is in charge of alland He is concerned with all of His children.

Jonah wanted God to punish the Ninevites, but when they turned to God,He forgave them. He withheld destruction & showed grace to them.We, like Jonah, often show anger & desire punishment for those who wrong us.Instead, we should show grace and forgiveness, as God showed both Jonah and the Ninevites.

Jonah prophesied in Nineveh, as God instructed, & the Ninevites turned from evil.God showed compassion & spared them from destruction. In Christ's time, He was able to be compassionate also.He humbled Himself and assumed humanity to experience our joys & sorrows. When you think God doesn't understand, remember that He became human to know us better than we know ourselves.

Jonah's prayer while in the belly of the fish demonstrates the duality we often find in our lives.He gives thanks while, at the same time, he is pleading for help. Our lives often demand that we seek help from Him; we should not hesitate to do thiswhile also thanking Him for His blessings.

On his sea journey, Jonah was sacrificed to save the unbelieving sailors.God provided salvation by keeping him for 3 days in the belly of the great fish.This was used by Jesus to prophesy His redeeming sacrifice and the 3 days He was in the depth of the earth.
