Monaco is getting ready to pay tribute to the yachting of yesteryear with Monaco Classic Week, which starts next Wednesday. The biennial event, organised by the Monaco Yacht Club since 1994, pays tribute to sailing's maritime heritage, with displays of historic large and small pleasure boats.
There'll be a range of contests, races and parades, plus plenty of social occasions. About 110 classic sailing and motorboats will fill the Yacht Club's marina, some dating back to the early 1900s - by which time Monaco had already become a mecca for the international yachting world.
This year's Classic Week also features an exhibition of photography dedicated to Prince Rainier III, who founded the Monaco Yacht Club and loved sailing. It coincides with the year-long celebrations of the centenary of his birth. Access to the quays and the exhibitors' village is free and Classic Week runs from 13th to 16th September.
The grand finale that concludes Monaco Classic Week, next Saturday, is a big parade when participants gather just off the Oceanographic Museum and file one at a time towards Larvotto beach. You'll find all the details at monacoclassicweek.com
And just a reminder that next Friday 15th September, the Monegasque government is organising a jobs fair - Monaco pour l'Emploi - at the Grimaldi Forum. Monaco's 6,000 private companies have plenty of job opportunities that need to be filled.
The event is an opportunity for potential jobseekers to meet recruiters (and vice versa) and match the right people to the right jobs. As you'd expect, there's a broad range of jobs on offer in Monaco - everything from finance, accounting and insurance to digital technologies, yachting, catering, and construction.
Monaco for Employment (Monaco Pour l'Emploi) is taking place on 15th September, at the Grimaldi Forum, from 9am to 6pm and entry is free. For the best chance of finding a good match, you can send your CV in advance to [email protected]. It's the same email address if you're an employer in the principality looking for new talent - [email protected]
