THE NEW AMERICAN PASTIME: LOOTING (New York Post)

An East Los Angeles AutoZone was ransacked twice within 24 hours as street takeovers hit the same intersection over the weekend. Video from Sunday shows a large masked crowd smashing windows and pouring into the store before fleeing with merchandise. Forget baseball, hot dogs and apple pie—apparently the new weekend activity is grabbing an alternator and running.

    ------

SHOW ME THE MONEY (Fox News)

Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed says Medicare for All would change how Americans pay for healthcare: instead of insurance premiums, people could pay “a little bit more” in taxes. When pressed about people earning under $1 million, he didn't directly say no, arguing higher taxes would replace private insurance payments while providing healthcare without job-dependent coverage.

    ------

    BARE BAIT (Fox19)

Missouri prosecutors say a man was injected with drugs, cut with a knife and shot with an airsoft or BB gun during what the victim described as a bizarre “sex game.” He says his alleged attacker then made him run from a hunting blind and shot toward him as he fled. The victim says he survived by hiding in the woods for about five days. Naked and Afraid apparently wasn't challenging enough

In 2024, Whisenant and Brant Hysell climbed El Capitan’s notoriously difficult Lurking Fear route in under three hours. Earlier this year, Whisenant climbed the Nose twice in a single day. Details of the fatal accident have not yet been released.

FOOL ME TWICE? (KTVU FOX 2)

The FDA has approved Moderna’s mFlusiva, the first mRNA influenza vaccine, for adults 50 and older. It uses the same basic mRNA platform familiar from COVID vaccines but targets influenza instead of SARS-CoV-2. Moderna’s pivotal Phase 3 program included more than 40,000 adults, while its broader safety database included more than 71,000 participants. Flu season just got an mRNA sequel.

    ------

DON’T GO IN THE WATER (KTVU FOX 2)

Louisiana has reported five deaths from Vibrio vulnificus this year, prompting warnings about the potentially deadly bacterium found naturally in warm coastal and brackish water. Infection can occur through raw shellfish or when contaminated water contacts an open wound. Despite its scary “flesh-eating” nickname, health officials say that term is medically inaccurate. Maybe keep the Band-Aid out of the Gulf.

    ------

    WOKE COKE (New York Post)

Coca-Cola’s personalized-can filters came under fire after testing reportedly found bizarre inconsistencies: some political and religious phrases were rejected while other controversial phrases got through. Coca-Cola says its rules prohibit certain political, religious, trademarked and inappropriate messages. The company acknowledged a technical issue and paused personalization while reviewing it.

    ------

    ON GOLDEN POND

Two men allegedly posed as federal agents and tried to convince an 85-year-old Washington, D.C., man to turn more than $200,000 into gold bars for “safekeeping.” Fortunately, the gold dealer smelled something besides commission, warned the victim and contacted authorities. WHO NEEDS FRIENDS?

New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin takes aim at NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani after his administration dismissed the advisory board of the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. RATE YOUR LONGEVITY

Want to see how well you're aging? Grab a chair and a stopwatch. The 30-second chair-stand test measures how many times you can completely stand and sit without using your arms. Their complaints include self-checkout, bargain stores, moving products, digital coupons, lousy carts, generic brands, sold-out items, understaffing, no baggers and expensive convenience foods. 62% of shoppers 65+ prefer a cashier when the lines are equal. Apparently self-checkout is where Boomers draw the line.

    ------

    GOOD GUY WITH A GUN

A gunman opened fire at an In-N-Out in Twin Falls, Idaho, killing two people and wounding seven. The suspected gunman was later found dead, with authorities reportedly believing he took his own life. The investigation into the shooting and motive continues.

    ------

WHY DO I NEED A DASHCAM?

Why spend money on a dashcam? Because after an accident there can suddenly be two completely different versions of what happened — yours and theirs. Dashcam footage can provide evidence for insurance claims, disputed fault, hit-and-runs, vandalism and road-rage incidents. It may not earn you an insurance discount, but when someone says, "That's not what happened," you might have the receipts.
