    574 Lottery! The lost Friday Episode...

    National Day: National Martini Day — Time to enjoy a classic cocktail (shaken or stirred).

    Birthday: Paula Abdul (born 1962) — Singer, dancer, choreographer, and American Idol judge.

    This Day in History: 1846 — The first recorded baseball game under modern rules was played in Hoboken, New Jersey.

    "A Dollar and a Dream"

    ----

    Is the Lottery a Tax on Hope, or the Last Great American Dream?

    Today we're talking about one of America's favorite pastimes. No, not baseball. No, not football.

    Standing in line at the convenience store with a handful of losing scratchers and saying:

    "Give me another one."

    Americans spend over one hundred billion dollars every year on lottery tickets.

    More than many forms of entertainment combined.

    And yet virtually everyone knows the odds are terrible.

    You have a better chance of being struck by lightning.

    You have a better chance of becoming a professional athlete.

    You have a better chance of being elected President.

    Yet every week millions of Americans willingly hand over money for a chance at instant riches. Why?

    Today we're going to find out.

    Who Actually Buys Lottery Tickets?

    Contrary to popular belief, it's not just little old ladies buying scratchers at the grocery store.

    About half of American adults buy lottery tickets at least once per year.

    The heaviest spending comes from:

    Adults between 30 and 64

    Working-class households

    Lower-income communities

    Regular players rather than occasional jackpot chasers

    One of the most surprising discoveries is that a relatively small percentage of players account for most of the spending.

    The lottery isn't funded by people buying one ticket during a billion-dollar jackpot.

    It's funded by people buying tickets every week, sometimes every day.

    ---

    The Psychology of Hope

    Nobody buys a lottery ticket because they think they're going to lose. They buy hope.

    For two dollars:

    * The mortgage disappears.

    * The credit cards disappear.

    * Retirement becomes tomorrow.

    * The boss becomes optional.

    For a few days, people get to imagine a completely different life.

    That's powerful.

    The fantasy may actually be worth more than the ticket.

    Liberals hold pro-algae protest at renovated Reflecting Pool.

    The line between reality and satire gets thinner by the day.

    There is a pro-algae protest of three at the Lincoln Reflecting Pool and we’ve reached peak circus!

    The "Team Algae" protesters have not specified if they are angry about the algae removal itself, or if they are simply trolling Trump for having a common water-cycling problem with said pool.

    CNN is being ripped for running a full-fledged "independent" investigation into the color of the Reflecting Pool, as if it's a scandal.

    Joe Gives Critics the STFU

    Podcaster Joe Rogan tells critics of UFC Freedom 250 White House event to "shut the f--- up"

    Rogan defended the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House, dismissing politicization from both sides.

    "It was insane. Just the magnitude of it was insane."

    Rogan continued:

    "That was the wildest experience that I've ever had in my 20 whatever years of calling combat sports. There's nothing even close. Nothing even close. It was the greatest night of fights of all time. And it was the only night in the history of the sport where every single fight ended by knockout."

    He added that he had to convince some people to attend:

    "I talked a bunch of people into going that didn't want to. Like Shane Gillis was thinking about not going. I'm like, 'Bro, you got to go. It's going to be epic. It's going to be a once ever thing. Not a once in a lifetime. Once in anybody's lifetime. It's never happened before. It's probably never going to happen again.'"

    Rogan also criticized attempts to make the event partisan:

    "So many people are trying to make it a partisan thing. Like they're mad at people for being there. Like, 'Oh, you support Trump.' Like, it's a f---ing fight at the White House. Doesn't mean you endorse foreign policy. Like, shut the f--- up. Just please. Just please stop."

    And later added:

    "The right celebrates this as a win for masculinity and patriotism and all these different things. Like, okay, settle down. Everybody settle down. You should all be together."

    REPRESENTATION FOR LACK OF PARTICIPATION

    While visitors from around the world enjoy the United States during the FIFA World Cup, I have a few questions for our progressive friends.

    * Do you actually hate America?

    * Are you ashamed of what this country represents?

    * Does voter fraud exist?

    * Is political violence ever acceptable?

    * Is the United States a socialist country?

    * Inclusion or exclusion?

    * Reparations?

    * White guilt?

    * Should only United States citizens vote in American elections?

    Since we don't have any liberal progressives on our panel this morning, we'll have no choice but to let the panel answer these questions for you.

    MLB Becomes Woke! (Fox News)

    Major League Baseball warns San Francisco Giants players for writing Bible verses on Pride Night hats as starter Landen Roupp said the verse represents "God's covenant" and expressed gratitude for freedom of belief.

    Several Giants pitchers, in a statement of their faith, wrote Bible verse designations on their hats.

    Naturally, that public expression of Christian faith did not go over well with left-wing sportswriters who criticized Roupp and his teammates. Well, those critics will be overjoyed to hear that Major League Baseball has now officially stepped in.

    "The writing on the cap violates our rules, and consistent with normal practice, we have warned the players about future violations," — Pat Courtney, MLB Chief Communications Officer

    On the other hand, would MLB have warned a player for writing a message of support for left-wing politics, or for the LGBTQ+ community, for example?

    This is, after all, the same leadership team that pulled the All-Star Game out of Georgia because of misinformation from Joe Biden, Stacey Abrams and left-wing sportswriters about the state's new voting rights bill.

    Would they be issuing this warning if not for more criticism from the political left?

    As for the team itself, nobody seemed to care. Manager Tony Vitello spoke about it after the Friday night game against the Cubs, telling reporters that nothing was discussed with the protesting players.

    Iranians Stand Proud for the Iran That Was! (New York Post)

    The FIFA World Cup is supposed to be an escape. For 90 minutes, politics take a back seat to passion. Governments disappear. Borders blur. The ball is kicked and all of the world watches.

    That’s always been the beauty of sports. It unites instead of divides.

    But on Monday night inside SoFi Stadium—named Los Angeles Stadium for the World Cup—that illusion never stood a chance.

    Several hours before kickoff, the atmosphere around the stadium felt strangely calm. The early-arriving crowds were mostly subdued, almost contemplative. It felt like the kind of quiet that comes before a storm.

    Then the flags began to appear as an army of Iranians marched toward the stadium.

    Not the official flag of the Islamic Republic that FIFA permits inside stadiums.

    The other one.

    The lion-and-sun flag.

    The flag carried by many Iranians who fled the 1979 revolution.

    Yet when Iran captain Mehdi Taremi spoke Sunday, he attempted to draw a line between politics and football.

    "We play for every Iranian. We are here to bring joy."

    That may be true, but it’s also true that many Iranians no longer agree on what their national team represents.

    For some immigrants who fled the country during the revolution, the players are ambassadors of a nation.

    For others, they are unwilling symbols of a regime they oppose.

    That divide made its way inside the stadium as well.

    As the players were introduced, and Iran’s national anthem played, hundreds of supporters unveiled the prohibited flags and turned their backs toward the field.

    Alf’s Mom Died in Hate (Not the Bee)

    Anne Schedeen, known as mom "Kate Tanner" from *ALF*, just died.

    That's sad enough, but Variety (and her family, apparently) wanted to make sure her death was all about Bad Orange Man.

    Even Rob Reiner's severe TDS didn't make the headlines like this.

    In a statement, Schedeen's family wrote:

    "She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of creative energy, whip smart humor, delight in her family, adoration for little dogs, burning hatred for Trump, passion for second-hand thrifting, and love for a good story. We are bereft without her. We loved her so so much, as did all who met her."

    That's right.

    Those are the literal words from her family.

    Man, Trump is just always on their minds, isn't he?

    Rent free.

    One more comment for the road for all my fellow ALF fans:

    She also had a burning hatred for ALF.

    Remember the episode when she tried to microwave him?

    * Is your commute easier?

    * Did your dog care?

    UFC 317 (Freedom 250)

    The White House lawn is in “Are You Ready” mode for America’s 250th and President Trump’s birthday bash!

    In typical Trump fashion the nation will witness the first ever UFC event on the front lawn of our nation’s capital. TDS enthusiasts are having an absolute meltdown over the audacity that Trump has used this opportunity to throw a party not only for himself but the nation they so fervently hate (seems like).

    Meanwhile I ask myself:

    * Did my paycheck change?

    * Is my mortgage lower?

    * Did this improve my golf score?

    Karmelo Anthony Verdict

    Half the country is furious and the other half is furious for the opposite reason, and most Americans only learned about this case 3 days ago.

    Meanwhile I’m wondering if the egg salad sandwich in my lunchbox doesn’t have enough mayonnaise on it!

    Pride Month

    People celebrating, people protesting, people boycotting and writing Bible verses on their Pride Night baseball caps or not wearing the caps at all!

    Meanwhile I’m trying to keep my lettuce from bolting in the hot weather, keeping my tomatoes alive and avoiding 3-putts.

    ELON MUSK IS A TRILLIONAIRE ($1,000,000,000,000)

    And You Thought Data Centers Were Huge!

    Just wait till Elon starts building his enormous vault to store each and every one of his precious dollar bills!

    Breaking News!

    Elon Musk's net worth has reportedly reached one trillion dollars.

    Sources confirm he has begun construction on a 47-state-wide storage facility to hold all the cash.

    Experts estimate:

    * 10,000 accountants needed just to count it.

    * 4,000 forklifts required to move it.

    * Every mattress in America is being recalled to make room underneath it.

    * The Federal Reserve has asked him to stop ordering pallets of $100 bills.

    Meanwhile, half the internet is furious that a guy who builds rockets, electric cars, satellites, AI companies, payment systems, and tunnels ended up rich.

    Apparently the new American Dream is:

    "Anyone can become successful...

    ...just not THAT successful."

    The real mystery isn't how much he's worth.

    The real mystery is why somebody else's success makes complete strangers so angry.
