Over ten years ago, Nissan led the industry with its development and sale of the Nissan Leaf, the industry's first pure electric. With a then range of 100 miles, it was considered revolutionary. Fast forward to now: EV manufacturing start up Lucid Motors currently manufactures a sedan with a range that is over 500 miles, while pure electrics slated to come to the marketplace in the next several years will boast a minimum range of 300 miles on average. Meanwhile, Nissan has fallen far behind, with a dearth of EVs due to come to market in the next several years and a modest (some say cautious) financial commitment of just $18 Billion to be spread between Nissan and Infiniti. What happened?
