On this episode of ROAR with Katherine Kendall, we speak with guest Lou Godbold - trauma expert and my personal trauma guru. Today we discuss epigenetics and the ways in which self awareness, care and love allow us to heal and the profound effect that can offer for family and/or children.

Louise Godbold is the Executive Director of Echo, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that provides science-based parenting, trauma recovery, and resilience training to parents, educators, trauma survivors and recovery professionals from all over the world. She’s also a Weinstein survivor. Since we met, she’s been my guiding light, and she’s also the person who asked me to start this podcast.

Sarah Peyton is an author, international speaker and neuroscience educator dedicated to helping people Transform their brains to a kinder cozier place to live. In this conversation Sarah explains trauma to me in a very personal way my sharing her own story. She gave me some really easy managable tools to help me help me heal my own trauma. I feel like trauma Isn’t such a scary word now. After talking to her, I’ve been listening to her free guided meditations developing self warmth. I’m thrilled to get to know Sarah and her work.

I’m thrilled to be speaking with Lucy Lang in this episode. Lucy is running for district attorney of Manhattan, and I believe that she will succeed in becoming the first female district attorney. She has my full support. I’ve learned a tremendous amount over the last few years from Lou Godbold (Roar’s trauma guru)about what it means to be “trauma informed.” Being “trauma informed” is Lou’s term for bringing the survivor’s needs into account, and empowering the survivor. Lucy Lang is dedicated to taking this approach in her work, which will change the game for everyone. She understands that being district attorney is far more than being a prosecutor. She has all kinds of exciting plans for bringing survivor’s needs into her work. She gives me hope for the criminal justice system.

Today I’m speaking with Jessica Barth. Jessica is an actress known for portraying Tammy Lynn McCafferty in the film TED and it’s sequel. She is also a writer, a mother, an activist, a friend and a fellow Harvey Weinstein survivor. She created the nonprofit VOICES IN ACTION which is a survivor-founded and reporting platform. It’s a place where survivors of sexual assault can document and time stamp incidents privately and receive alerts if someone else named the abuser. She has worked closely with Lou Godbold (ROAR’S go-to trauma specialist & guru) to make sure that everyone at VOICES IN ACTION is trauma informed.

After speaking with Jessica I realize there are still huge challenges in getting a sexual harassment charge filed. There’s so much work still to be done, but she is making an impact by changing the landscape for survivors of sexual violence everywhere. 

Kiki Dair is an adult film star. Today we had a discussion about the Me too movement in the adult film industry and how it’s affected sex workers. We speak about the The importance of consent always, consent and boundaries. We cover topics from Ron Jeremy Being charged with multiple rape and sexual assault counts to BDSM, To the importance of boundaries around sexwork.

Louisette Geiss was one of the first women to come forward publicly against Harvey Weinstein. I met her for the first time on the air. It was in the middle of the night, we were in separate studios as guests on CNN’s Don Lemon and we were telling our stories about Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulting us on live TV. What a way meet. We've come a long way since that moment, and I now consider her a great friend. > In this episode we talk about the musical she co-wrote with Howard Kagen, THE RIGHT GIRL. She sat with over 20 other survivors who contributed their stories to help create the book for the musical. It has been important & cathartic for her to turn a painful situation into art.

In this episode I speak with my good friend Caitlin O’Toole about bipolar disorder. She is  a Washington, D.C., native, and has written and produced for Sesame Workshop, The Huffington Post, People.com, and MTV. She is also the author of the blog "The Miss Jobless Chronicles" and is currently featured in the just-released book "Tiny Love Stories", a collection of writing from The New York Times' "Modern Love" sister column. Now based in Australia, Caitlin is working with a non-profit in the ageing and disability sector and is writing a memoir about surviving bipolar and finding peace at 50.

In this episode I speak with Adam Milch. Adam was born and raised in Washington D.C. He has worked as a television writer/producer for the past ten years, on shows such as GREEK, GIRLFRIENDS GUIDE TO DIVORCE, UNREAL, HART OF DIXIE, and most recently, THE MORNING SHOW. We discuss how the writers, producers, and actors on THE MORNING SHOW dealt with the subject of sexual assault and the metoo movement. They did a superb job of capturing all the nuances and complexities that go on for everyone, the show is one of my favorites. I’m thrilled to have him as guest on this podcast. Adam lives in Los Angeles with his husband and four-yearr-old daughter.

Today I speak with Joyce Short. She is the founder of the Consent Awareness Network (CAN), A coalition that works with legislators to define consent in penal codes across the US and around the world. She Is the presenter of an incredibly informative TEDx talk “When YES Means NO -We are Working to use hashtag #codifyconsent to help to spread awareness That are laws regarding consent really need to change.

Leah Ester Kershman is a former anesthesiologist and is now studying to become a rabbi. She shares with us her profound experience using psilocybin to help heal her trauma after battling leukemia and having several near death experiences. Hers is an inspiring story, Illustrating how effective psychedelic substances can be in helping heal from trauma.
