On this episode of You Don’t Know Flack I talk about MAME, the arcade game emulator. I talk about some of the different types of computer and devices I play MAME on (including things like PCs and the Raspberry Pi), some of the different controllers I use, and touch on some of the advantages of playing MAME on a computer over building a MAME cabinet. I think about half of this information has appeared in other episodes of YDKF, but I’ve had MAME on the mind and so this is what came out. The sub-theme of this episode is, “enjoy your hobby the way you want.”

Also check out these related YDKF episodes about MAME Cabinets, the iCade, the Raspberry Pi and my Emulation PC.

Move over Daddy Kong, Junior is here to save you in the sequel to the original Nintendo smash hit Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior! Although the arcade version of Donkey Kong Junior was released all the way back in 1982, this excellent port was completed and released in November of 2014! Along with a complete review of the game I was able to get a few questions about the project answered by the coder himself, Mr. SID. Check it out!

If you would like to play along, you can find download links to emulators along with all the games played so far on Sprite Castle by clicking on the downloads tab at the top of the page. Next episode we will be covering Track and Field by Atarisoft.

Congratulations to Jeff aka @ScofflawStyle for being this episode’s King of the Castle! Listen to this week’s episode to find out how you can become the next King of the Castle!

It’s spring in the Midwest and that means it’s tornado season. On this episode of You Don’t Know Flack I talk about what it was like growing up in Tornado Alley and my experience with two devastating tornadoes in Oklahoma on May 3, 1999 and May 20, 2013.

Welcome, Druid who looks suspiciously like the Wizard from Gauntlet! On today’s episode of Sprite Castle I play Firebird’s 1986 classic Druid, which may or may not have been inspired by Atari’s Gauntlet. But totally was.

If you would like to play along, you can find download links to emulators along with all the games played so far on Sprite Castle by clicking on the downloads tab at the top of the page. Next episode we will be covering Donkey Kong Jr. by Mr. SID.

Congratulations to Scott Sackett for being this episode’s King of the Castle! Listen to this week’s episode to find out how you can become the next King of the Castle!

Listen. I know this sounds like a terrible idea for a show. It’s not as bad as it sounds, I promise. Just wait until you hear about all the fun I used to have printing things out with Print Shop!

Our Epson FX-80, sitting between a PC and our Franklin Ace 1000.

Note the Rambo printout behind my head (1987). This is the large wood desk my dad built that I mentioned in episode 156.

Okay, so it’s not really every computer I’ve ever owned, but it’s every computer I’ve ever owned and actually used. My fellow hoarders understand the difference.
