What happens when faith encounters silence, discouragement, and an answer that challenges our expectations? In Matthew 15:21–28, a Canaanite mother approaches Israel's Messiah, pleading for her daughter's deliverance. Her response reveals a faith Jesus calls great. Pastor Brandon Holthaus examines four barriers—silence, discouragement, priority, and entitlement—and what they reveal about our trust in God. This woman persisted through difficulty, accepted Israel's priority, and sought mercy without demanding Israel's place. She understood that the Messiah could bless her without taking anything away from His people. Discover why religious privilege cannot substitute for personal faith, why Gentile blessing does not require Israel's displacement, and how to pray confidently while respecting God's promises, purposes, and timing.

Will Your Faith Accept God’s Plan for Israel?

What does it mean to have a heart of stone or a heart of flesh? In this teaching, Pastor Brandon Holthaus continues his study of Hebrew idioms by examining two powerful expressions found in the book of Ezekiel: "They sit before you as My people" from Ezekiel 33:31 and the contrast between a "heart of stone" and a "heart of flesh" in Ezekiel 36:26. Scripture warns that it is possible to hear God's Word, attend church, study the Bible, and outwardly appear devoted while never allowing biblical truth to transform the way we actually live. Jesus asks, "Why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say?" James gives the same warning when he tells believers to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. Pastor Brandon explores how spiritual hardness develops through repeated resistance to truth, persistent sin, pride, unbelief, idolatry, and an unwillingness to obey. He also explains how fear and other emotions can influence our thinking and decision-making when our minds are not grounded in Scripture. But there is good news: a hardened heart does not have to remain hardened. God desires a heart that is responsive, teachable, and willing to trust Him. Through faith, obedience, and the transforming work of God's Word, believers can grow in spiritual maturity and develop a heart that is increasingly sensitive to His truth. Are we simply hearing the Word of God, or are we allowing it to change us? #Hebraisms #HeartOfStone #HeartOfFlesh #Ezekiel36 #Ezekiel33 #BibleStudy #BiblicalTruth #ChristianLiving #SpiritualGrowth #WordOfGod #BrandonHolthaus #RockHarborChurch

Unlocking the Hebraic Idioms of the Bible: Episode 35

Many biblical passages become clearer when we understand the Hebrew thought, culture, and expressions behind them. In this teaching, Pastor Brandon Holthaus continues his study of Hebraisms by examining key passages from Daniel and showing how their original context helps illuminate biblical prophecy, spiritual warfare, and the believer's walk with Christ. Beginning with Daniel 9, Pastor Brandon explores the meaning of the Messiah being "cut off," its connection to Isaiah 53, and the prophetic significance of the "abomination of desolation." The study also examines the future Temple, the Antichrist, and why Scripture warns against confusing sacred surroundings with genuine spirituality. The teaching then moves into Daniel 10 and the biblical concept of spiritual rulers, territorial powers, and the unseen conflict taking place in the spiritual realm. Pastor Brandon connects these passages with Ephesians to explain how spiritual warfare involves influence, deception, resistance, prayer, and standing firmly in our position in Christ. Ultimately, this study reminds believers that Christianity is not about buildings, religious environments, or outward appearances. The believer is the temple of God, and the real battleground is the heart and mind. Topics include: • Daniel 9 and the Messiah being "cut off" • Isaiah 53 and the suffering servant • The abomination of desolation • The Antichrist and the future Temple • Sacred spaces versus genuine spirituality • Daniel 10 and territorial spiritual powers • Principalities, powers, and spiritual warfare • The believer's position in Christ • Resisting spiritual deception and influence • Prayer, discernment, and standing firm in Ch

Unlocking the Hebraic Idioms of the Bible: Episode 36

In Matthew 15:1–20, Jesus directly confronts the scribes and Pharisees for elevating human traditions above God's commandments. Their religious system looked spiritual, but it produced empty worship, hypocrisy, and disobedience. In this message, Pastor Brandon examines the Pharisaic traditions surrounding ritual handwashing, Corban, and the principle of eruv. These practices show how religious leaders could combine biblical concepts with human reasoning to create legal loopholes that let people appear obedient while avoiding genuine surrender to God. The same danger exists within Christianity today. Believers can misuse grace, Christian liberty, prayer, ministry, personal feelings, and even biblical truth to excuse disobedience. Saying, "God knows my heart," "I prayed about it," or "I'm serving God" cannot replace submission to the clear teaching of Scripture. Jesus called the Pharisees "blind leaders of the blind." When human tradition replaces divine revelation, both the leaders and those following them eventually fall into the ditch. Truth has no sacred cows. Genuine spirituality does not ask, "How can I appear obedient without surrendering?" It asks, "What does God's Word require, and how can I faithfully obey it?" #SlayingSacredCows #TruthOverTradition #Matthew15 #TraditionsOfMen #WordOfGod #ChristianLoopholes #BiblicalTruth #JesusChrist #Pharisees #Corban #ReligiousHypocrisy #ChristianObedience #BibleTeaching #Sermon #RockHarborChurch #BrandonHolthaus

Slaying Sacred Cows with the Sword of Truth: Matthew 15:1-20

In Matthew 14:22–33, Jesus reveals Himself as the divine King who has authority over creation, chaos, and every spiritual power. As the disciples struggle against the storm, Jesus comes to them walking on the sea. The waters that terrify the disciples are already beneath His feet. Against the biblical imagery of the chaotic sea and Leviathan, this passage gives us a powerful picture of Christ's absolute authority over everything that brings fear, disorder, and opposition. But then Jesus calls Peter out of the boat. Faith requires more than recognizing who Jesus is. It requires trusting Him enough to step out when He calls. Peter walks on what should have overwhelmed him as long as his eyes remain fixed on Christ. What looks like chaos beneath our feet is still under the authority of Jesus Christ.
