  • ROCK SOLID FAMILIES - THE DARK SIDE - EPISODE 72

Whether it's feeling down due to the weather, a situation, or full-blown depression, we all have times when we feel like we are walking in the dark.  Depression and anxiety are normal parts of life, to a degree.  But, when these moods are prolonged or extremely intense, they can lead us to costly and even devastating places.

In this show Merrill and Linda tackle the this subject and discuss the importance of HOPE in our lives.  They describe what these moods may look like, but also how to begin to work through them.  Methods and techniques are important components of helping us to beat the dark side of life.  But, without our hope founded and grounded in God, we will just continue to revisit these dark times.

Our way to God is through Jesus Christ.  That is why we often refer to him as our HOPE!  Believing in him gives us an understanding of how we can fix our eyes on brighter days ahead.  Please listen in and see how you can begin to regain your hope and begin to see the BRIGHT SIDE!

  • ROCK SOLID FAMILIES - DATE NIGHT - EPISODE 71

Valentine's Day is over, does that mean your dates with your spouse are over?  Many couples are hard pressed to find a date night more than a couple of times a year.  They act like they have to have a special occasion or holiday to celebrate.  What we find is that your marriage does not survive well if you only tend to your spouse a couple of times a year.

Merrill and Linda discuss the importance of keeping your marriage healthy with regular checkups called date nights.  Date nights give a couple an opportunity to focus on each other and the needs of the marriage.  This allows for the opportunity to challenge and grow the marriage to a deeper and more fulfilling level as the years pass by.  The longer a couple goes without meaningful and regular interaction, the greater the chance of the relationship fading away.

Begin having discussions about scheduling a regular date night to restore and build a divorce proof marriage.

  • ROCK SOLID FAMILIES - GUEST KAREN SCHEBLER AND KRISTEN HALLAHAN - EPISODE 70

Do your kids like to read?  Believe it or not, many kids do not.  In fact, this is a common challenge for our kids, parents, and teachers. We would love for all of our kids to love reading.  Their school life would most likely be easier, and parenting kids during the school year would be easier.  The simple fact is, many kids do not like to read.

Special guests, Kristen Hallahan and Karen Schebler are elementary school teachers that take on the daily task of teaching reading to our kids.  On a regular basis they see kids that love reading, but just as often they see kids that do not like reading.  Whether it's because it's difficult, intimidating, or down right boring, many kids just aren't that interested in learning to read.

Kristen and Karen give great tips and advice to help our parents work with their kids through this sometimes challenging, yet essential task.

  • ROCK SOLID RADIO - ELDERLY CARE - EPISODE 69

You've probably heard the phrase, "You can't be a sissy and grow old".  Boy, there is truth to this statement.  Growing old can be tough.  We spend the first part of our lives being cared for by our parents, the second part, raising our own family, and the third part, being cared for by our children.  Somehow there is a crazy message in this natural cycle of life.

Merrill and Linda currently find themselves with a foot in two different stages of life; still raising kids, and now caring for parents.  With that being said, this is not a time for feeling sorry for yourself or wishing it would go away.  This is a time of life, like all the other times of life, to embrace.  The opportunity to give back to our parents is incredible.  To care for them as they took the time to care for us when we were young.

Our parents deserve to be honored and respected, just as you would want to be honored and respected when you find yourself in their shoes. This show carries many useful bits of information on how to navigate these senior years with our parents. More importantly, it spotlights the message that we are to care for our family.

Our hope is that this show makes you think and even begin to plan for how you will walk through these years with your family.

  • ROCK SOLID RADIO - HURTS, HABITS, AND HANGUPS, SPECIAL GUEST - ROSANNE MOORE - EPISODE 68

Linda and Merrill invited special guest, Roseanne Moore into the studio.  Roseanne is the regional director of Celebrate Recovery.  Roseanne's passion to serve others is evident as she describes the work of Celebrate Recovery.  The biggest role of Celebrate Recovery is to apply the 12 step program of addiction recovery to any and all of our unhealthy habits.  Whether it be alcohol, unhealthy relationships, pornography, money, anxiety, or anything that seems to be your stumbling block in life.
Roseanne explains that the huge success of Celebrate Recovery is that the major player in the help process is Jesus Christ.  When we learn of His unfailing love and grace, we have hope.  Hope is what gives us the strength to get up and fight for another day!

  • ROCK SOLID RADIO - HEALTH AND FITNESS 2020 - EPISODE 67

Are you tired of failing at your diet and exercise program?  Most of us are.  We get tired of setting these lofty goals only to find ourselves defeated in a matter of weeks.  Why?  It really comes down to our approach and how we are wired as an individual.  What works for one person is sure to be a failure for another.  For this reason, you have to really understand who you are and how you are wired.
Some of us are natural workout fans.  We look forward to that part of our day and are bothered when we are not able to incorporate a good workout into our waking hours.  On the other hand, some of us despise working out.  We dread going to the gym, because it's not our nature.  We look for every reason under the sun to skip the workout. On this show of Rock Solid Radio, Merrill and Linda take on the subject of how to be your best when it comes to diet and exercise programs.  How to build our diet and exercise plans into a lifestyle that makes sense for us.
Merrill is a licensed personal trainer that works everyday with people to help them grow to be their best version.

  • ROCK SOLID FAMILIES - HELPING KIDS DEFEND THEIR FAITH - EPISODE 66

Does your child know right from wrong?  Before we jump to any quick conclusions, this is a question worth asking yourself.  How did they find out what was right and wrong?  Who was their teacher?  What have they been witnessing from the world or even you as their parent?  Our kids are very impressionable.  If you are not taking the time to impress upon them the truths of right and wrong based on God's Word, then they will be impressed upon by the ways of the world.

Merrill and Linda take on the challenge of teaching our kids to know how to defend their faith and belief system.  The Christian Faith is constantly under attack.  If you are a Christian, then you are also under attack.  If you are raising your kids to be Christian, then they are under attack.  How are we preparing ourselves and our kids to defend their faith?  Listen in as we take this subject head-on with the hopes of building a stronger next generation of Christians!

  • ROCK SOLID FAMILIES - FEELING STUCK? EPISODE 65

Have you ever felt stuck in life?  Not knowing what the next step needs to be, but knowing it's time for a next step?  Maybe in a completely different direction? We all get to these places in life, and there is good reason for this.  This is often a sign that we need to work on or change something in our life or about us as a person.  This unsettled feeling can either drive you crazy, or it can be an exciting time to listen to God's nudging and let him move you.  Merrill and Linda have a great time unpacking this feeling of being stuck. They give the listeners a little perspective on how to embrace this feeling and begin to move forward. Enjoy the ride with God taking the wheel!

  • ROCK SOLID FAMILIES - MIXED MESSAGES EPISODE 64

What messages are you sending?  Merrill and Linda confess from the start that this is a difficult area for them, as well as most all of us.  In marriage, parenting, work, even socializing, we can easily get caught sending mixed messages. In other words, our actions don't always match our words.  Hypocrisy is a big reason why many people will not enter the doors of a church. They see the words from people in the building only to see a different person outside the building.  While we know none of us will ever be perfect with this, we do think it is worth the time to assess how we are doing.
Are your actions and words matching up?
