Often times when watching a movie you focus on the story, which is rightfully so, but not as often do you focus on the person behind the camera and what some movements can say about the story. Today we look behind the shot and deep dive into the different patterns that make up a scene. As always we wanna know which shots you think are impactful as we tilt, zoom in, and out on our favorite camera movements in film
In this day and age, it is usually met with positivity for people to express who they truly are, but what about an animal? In this unique film, we follow Jacob as he is sent to a facility to "cure" him of his mental illness, along with others, that believe they are actually animals born as humans. A beautiful film with great direction and a story to tell but towards the end has its own faults. Nevertheless, the director has now caught our eye and helped us to realize, "its not about survivng, its about survivng as me"
Another year has gone by which means a new year to look forward to. This also means a whole year of new releases, trailers, and concepts to come out in film and with that, we gotta give our thoughts for all things new and exciting. As always we would love to hear what you wanna see from us and the movie industry as we think about what we wanna see in 2022
You know the famous quotes and the final scene but do you know the full story that unfolds? A masterpiece of a film as we see the rise of Tony Montana, an immigrant from Cuba to Florida as we see how he becomes a cocaine kingpin. A film that has some incredible acting, memorable scenes, and great storytelling, this is a perfect film to close out the year. A movie that reminds you that the world is yours, and sometimes you need to take it.
The year is coming to a close once again and with that, there have been ups and downs just like always. Something that we thought would be nice is discussing some of those times that we felt really were shinning moments for us as a podcast. As always we would love to hear some times that you felt we did a pretty sweet job as we take a look back at what we've done, over 2021
Did someone call for a web-slinger? Or possibly 5 of them? Today we take a look at the animated film from 2018 that crossed that path into the multiverse as we follow Miles Morales being bit by an interdimensional radioactive spider and learning the ways to becoming Spiderman, with the help of 4 others. This film has a beautiful color pallet as well as uses unique editing to make it feel as if it was an actual comic book unfolding. It may not be the newest Spiderman out there but our spidey-sense is going off for how fun this one is
When you are up against the wall and down on your luck, there's always that one person that will stick by your side to help you out hopefully. Today we discuss the "partners in crime" so to speak, as we look for two characters that have a unique chemistry. As always please let us know what are some of your picks for pairs as we collectively pile ours together and talk about our favorite film duo's
When it comes to westerns there are a few criteria, you need to have dastardly villains, gunslinging, some comedy, and heartfelt moments. Now, what if I said this could be done in 6 short stories? Today we discuss this in a series of vignettes by the Coen brothers that embody the core fundamentals of what a western can be. There is a lot to love about this film as you get a wide variety of stories, while not all have the same impact they all still give you a strong western vibe that will have you covered in pots and pans to avoid getting shot and yelling PAN-SHOT! the whole time
Over the years we have discussed a lot of characters, actors, and themes in film but we never really talk about the background being a character altogether. Today we decided to break that by looking past the people on screen and seeing what the environment that they inhabit has to offer. As always we would love to know what city, landscape, cave, or cabin really feels like another person to you on-screen as we think about when the environment becomes a character
Staying at a hotel to get some rest and relaxation is nice once in a while but when you add murder, stolen art, and love to the mix you get something only Wes Anderson can pull off. In arguably his best film we see Gustave and Zero go through many trials and tribulations all from the death of his late love. A film that blends the best of blocking of shots and making a bleak story feel beautiful and fun, it is something paired amazingly with the cast as well. For us, this is "the" Anderson film so far and we're willing to steal Boy with Apple to prove it
