  • RAS #540 - The Untouchable
On we have shadow encounters sent in by you guys. A shadow with a hole, one with no face, and even one that can stab you. Then I read a story suggested by RedBill792 about an object so amazing it’s untouchable. We move on and visit the year 1950, 1880 and then back to the 50’s all in an instant. How is that even possible? Just press that play button and see. Featured Story - The Untouchable For our featured story we have a science fiction classic sent to me by RedBill792. He said that he loved it and wanted me to read it on the air. After checking it out I thought, “why not?”, and gave it a shot. It comes from the December, 1960 issue of Analog Magazine. Do you know who King Tantalus is?  Hang around after the story and Ron will tell you.  It is titled The Untouchable, and was written by Stephen A. Kallis, Jr. You can see it—you can watch it—but you mustn't touch it! And what could possibly be more frustrating when you need, most violently, to get your hands on it for just one second. Other Stories Include - Murder on Diamond Row, Project Hail Mary, The Whole Shadow, The Man With No Face, Shadows Can Stab, The Untouchable, A Day In 1880, and Not So Important Times In History - 100% Mortality.  Ron’s Amazing Stories Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at   and - Good Treats for your dog to eat. • RAS #538 - Broken Arrow
Well, this was an interesting week at . Not only did it snow in the Pacific Northwest, which never happens in April, it caused power outages and brought not one but two trees down in my backyard. Quite the week. So, as you might imagine, it was hard to get the show done. The good news is that we do have a story for you. If you want to know more about what happened head to the website and you can .  Featured Story - Broken Arrow Our featured story comes from the Screen Directors Playhouse. It broadcast adaptations of feature films with the original directors involved in the productions. Beginning in 1955 the series moved to television focusing on original teleplays and adaptations of famous short stories. What we will hear today was adapted to radio from a Jimmy Stewart western.   Broken Arrow was released in 1950 and was directed by Delmer Daves. It starred James Stewart, Jeff Chandler, and Debra Paget. The film is based on historical figures but fictionalizes their story. It was nominated for three Academy Awards and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Film Promoting International Understanding. Film historians have said that the movie was one of the first major Westerns to portray our native Americans sympathetically. Broken Arrow first aired on September 7, 1951. Featured Story - First Contact Our featured story comes from the science fiction OTR series Dimension X. The story presents a problem that I think could happen with any alien First Contact. What is first contact?  Simply put, it is the first meeting between peoples of two previously unknown cultures. How could this go down? Would it be peaceful? That is what our story addresses. It is titled, appropriately enough, First Contact and it originally aired on September 9th, 1951.  Other Stories Include - The Return Of Mr. Lawrence, The Day the Earth Stood Still, UFO Coincidence, Night Of Fright, Around The World In 72 Days, First Contact, and Johnny Is It True - Documented or Not Program Notes:  Here are some photos of Nellie Bly’s trip around the world in 72 days. , and   Ron’s Amazing Stories Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at   and - Good Treats for your dog to eat. • RAS #534 - Flight From Tomorrow
On , “Houston We Have  A Problem”. This week we were scheduled to have an edition of Ghost Stories With Sylvia. Sylvia and I recorded just under an hour of good stuff and when I went to edit the audio….. the entire recording sounded just like two robots arguing. So, the bottom line is that I had to come up with a completely different show for this week. We have a special science fiction adventure titled Flight From Tomorrow. To make it even better it is read for us by Audible celebrity and friend to the podcast Mark Nelson. You are going to love it.  Featured Story - Flight From Tomorrow Our featured story is absolutely absorbing. It was written by H. Beam Piper who was a science fiction author popular in the 1950s. He specialized in short stories but also wrote several novels. He is best known for his extensive Terro-Human Future History series. Our story comes from the pulp-mag Science Fiction Stories dated September/October of 1950. It is a time travel tale, but not like anything you have ever heard before. There was no stopping General Zarvas' rebellion. Hradzka, leader of the known world, is hunted and hated in two worlds. He had dreamed of a monomaniac's glory but was stranded in the past with his knowledge of the future. However, he didn't know the past quite well enough.  Ron’s Amazing Stories Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at   and - Good Treats for your dog to eat. • RAS #533 - My Dad And Lizzy Borden
On this week we have a lot of original content. We open with a creepy encounter with Lizzy Borden and follow that up with A Moment In Time from June 6th, 1944. Then we have a horror/detective radio drama from the series The Inner Sanctum. It is titled The Scream and should keep you guessing. We will end the show with Sarah Lockwood Pardee and The Winchester Mystery House. So, press the play and enjoy the show. Featured Story - The Scream Our featured story is a horrific “who done it” from the creative minds of The Inner Sanctum. What does that mean? It is a part horror story, part detective story, and with some ghastly humor thrown in. All of which were trademarks of the old-time radio series. The Inner Sanctum Mystery aired from 1941 to 1952. It was created by Himan Brown and was based on input given to him by the mystery novels of Simon & Schuster. They, at the time, were the leaders of print media and inspired many of the classic radio shows of the time. Our story comes from their later broadcasts and explores the mind of the serial killer.  It is titled The Scream and first aired in January of 1950. Other Stories Include - Murder Under The Big Tent, When Worlds Collide, My Dad and Lizzy Borden, A Moment In time - June 6th, 1944, The Scream, and Our Amazing Stories - The Winchester Mystery House Ron’s Amazing Stories Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at   and - Good Treats for your dog to eat. • RAS #532 - The 4-D Doodler
On I have a question. Have you ever had your body torn apart and strewn about the room? Well, our featured story is all about that and even throws in some fourth-dimensional nonsense We also have a set of synchronous listener stories about a Man In The Mirror. Two listeners with the same experience? You have to check this out.  Featured Story - The 4-D Doodler Our featured story comes from the early days of science fiction. Science fact was making headway on many topics. However, multiverses and dimensional positioning was not one of them. In today‘s science, we still have very little concrete data on the subject. Our story is all about four-dimensional nonsense and a professor's head being suspended above his dismembered body. The tale is titled The 4-D Doodler and was written by Graph Waldeyer. Who, by the way, never existed. The story was recommended by Elanor Matheson who lives in Orlando, FL and she even reads it for us. It first was published in Comet Magazine in July of 1941. Other Stories Include - Carnival Caper, 2001 - A Space Odyssey (review), Man In The Mirror I, Man In The Mirror II, and The 4-D Doodler  Ron’s Amazing Stories Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at   and - Good Treats for your dog to eat. • RAS #531 - The Golden Snake
On we are full of snakes. We have a ghost snake, a golden snake, and even our Johnny Is It True is all about snakes. We instinctively fear them, but we are not afraid of fast cars, which are a real danger. This suggests our emotions were shaped by our evolutionary environment, not the one we grew up in. So, it should come as no surprise that we have many stories about them. Please enjoy just a few! Here are some snake facts for you:  Snakes are carnivores. Snakes don’t have eyelids. Snakes can’t bite food so they have to swallow it whole. Snakes have flexible jaws which allow them to eat prey bigger than their head! Snakes are found on every continent of the world except Antarctica. Snakes have internal ears but not external ones. Snakes used in snake charming performances respond to movement, not sound. There are around 3000 different species of snake. Featured Story - The Golden Snake Our featured story is about greed, want, and adventure. What we have is an exciting story of supernatural Mayan priests and a lost temple of gold in the Yucatan. A pilot finds the offer of a job in Mexico too financially attractive to turn down, but when he arrives it turns out that the rewards are far higher than he could ever have imagined and, as if things couldn't get any better, he will be working alongside a beautiful young woman. Unfortunately, there is a downside. Everyone who has been involved with the expedition in the past seems to be dead. The story is titled The Golden Snake and it aired on the OTR series Escape on April 14, 1950. Other Stories Include - Murder By Plane Crash, The Caves of Steel, Why Did It Have To Be Snakes, The Golden Snake, and Johnny Is It True - Snakes.
