  • RAS #510 - Oxychloride X
This is the last week before we begin the Month Of Spooky 2021. However, on this time we do some scary stuff. So, you're not going to be able to prepare for the spookiness. What we have are some really creepy stories from you guys to get the season going! Also, we have a story from Lights Out! that's not spooky, but probably means the end of the world. What are we going to do? Well, press that play button to find out. Featured Story - Oxychloride X Our featured story comes from the OTR series Lights Out. Now you might suppose that this one would be a horror story and it does have that, but I think it has more of a Twilight Zone feel. I could definitely see Rod Serling say something like this: “Picture this, a little man with monumental aspirations. He wants the people around him to know that he is a big man on campus. The problem is that his thoughts and deeds just might destroy the world. He is about to enter the twilight zone.”  The truth of the matter is that this story was written thirty years before the Twilight Zone was a thing. It is titled Oxychloride X and first aired on January 26, 1938. Other Stories Include - The Missing Ruby, A Grave Business, The Laundry Monster, Why I Ran Away From St. Mary’s Graveyard, The Old Dead Couple, Oxychloride X, and Not So Important Times In History - Khutulun. • RAS #509 - Hardhats, Hurricanes and Heroes
On this time we have something pretty cool. Rey Peyton is a longtime friend of the show and we have two stories submitted by him to share. Also, we have a brand new These Are Your Stories segment where I take a look at your reactions to past stories. We have a lot on this show so please press that play button and enjoy! Featured Story - Hardhats, Hurricanes, and Heroes This is a true story written, submitted, and lived by a friend to the podcast Ray Peyton. It is his story about his experience when Hurricane Carmen made landfall just east of Vermilion Bay on Sept. 7-8, 1974. Winds at a Bayou Boeuf oil rig topped 110 mph, with gusts to 120 mph. The storm killed three and caused $150 million in damage. This story is read for us by Mark Nelson. Mark has recorded more than 100 professional audiobooks, including crime fiction, science fiction, horror, non-fiction, histories, and classics. • RAS #508 - The Boy In The Basement
On this week we pretty much dedicate the entire show to one story, The Boy In The Basement. It was written by Sylvia Shults and is in fact her true encounter with Christopher, who just happens to be a spirit. This is a rare look at the behind-the-scenes of ghost hunting and even more amazing her ongoing relationship with Chris. Something that almost never happens. Also, on the show, we have a brand new story from you guys, and of course all of the other stuff you have come to enjoy on the show. So press that play button and please come join us. Featured Story - The Boy In The Basement This story is featured in the book Fractured Souls: More Hauntings at the Peoria State Hospital. The book was written by our very own Sylvia Shults. The was once the finest facility in the world for the care of the mentally ill. The asylum closed its doors in 1973, but the hilltop remains active to this day. Instead of the conversations of patients and the squeak of nurses' shoes, the halls now echo with the beeps of K2 meters and the hiss of spirit boxes. It's still a busy place, and for the spirits of many of its patients, it is still home. Other Stories Include - Case of Announcer's Delight, Lincoln on the Verge: Thirteen Days to Washington, The overprotective Ghost, and The Boy In The Basement About Sylvia Shults:  Sylvia is a Librarian, Author, and Ghost Hunter. She has spent a lifetime in the pursuit of the weird and strange. Her non-fiction works include Ghost of the Illinois River, Fractured Spirits, 44 Years in Darkness, Hunting Demons, The Spirits of Christmas, and her latest release Fractured Souls. All of her books are available on and you can find out more at her . • RAS #505 - And It Comes Out Here
On we have what we think is an odd show with good stuff. I have a story for you that almost made this week's podcast impossible, a shadow story that I almost couldn’t tell you, and a classic science fiction story that claims to be about time travel, but it really isn’t. That one I will leave to your imagination. So if any of that interests you press that play button and enjoy the show! Featured Story - And It Comes Out Here Our featured story this time is a bit quirky to be sure. It’s nonsense in a very sensible way. At first I thought that it might be too much, but as always I remember that this is Ron’s Amazing Stories and so it fits perfectly. It comes from the pen of Lester Del Ray and first appeared in Galaxy Science Fiction Magazine in February of 1951. It is an odd tale that has an odd title which is ... And It Comes Out Here. There is one fact no sane man can quarrel with ... everything has a beginning and an end. But some men aren't sane; thus it isn't always so!  Other Stories Include - A shooting at a Gas Station, Fallen Trees - A Sad Story, A Shadow’s Nightmare, and …And It Comes Out Here. • RAS #504 - Sub-Basement
On this time the show theme is the dinosaur, but in retrospect, that might be pushing it just a bit. In the end, you will have to decide if it was a fitting theme or not. On the program today we have stories from you guys, a classic from the OTR series Lights Out! and we end with a brand new Not So Important Times In History where we head to Mons, Belgium in the year 1914. Did Angels really defeat the Germans there? Listen to this podcast to find out. Featured Story - Sub-Basement Our featured story this week comes from the OTR series Lights Out. The quality of these old shows is so impressive that they are worth hearing again and again. This one takes place in a sub-basement where it is rumored that there is a small railroad to deliver merchandise. According to Lights Out it may even be filled with dinosaurs! The story is appropriately titled Sub-Basement and it first aired on August 24, 1943. Other Stories Include - Jewelry Train Heist, Jurassic Park - Audible, The Run-Around Man, Awesome Hotel And The Ghosts Are Pretty Cool Too, Sub-Basement, and Not So Important Times In History - The Angels Of Mons. • RAS #503 - Ray Bradbury Day
On we celebrate Raymond Bradbury, author, poet, scriptwriter, and of course hero to anyone who has read one of his books. Ray was born on August 20th and this would have been his 101st birthday. I have tried to make him part of the show and I think you will enjoy the result. We have three stories from you guys, and an adaptation of probably his most famous work, The Martian Chronicles.  Ray Bradbury was a prolific and influential author with a career that spanned decades. From his first published story in 1938, Hollerbochen’s Dilemma, to his Hugo award-winning novel Fahrenheit 451, the author was a master of the science-fiction genre. What you may not know about him was just how much he loved the story, which of course makes him perfect for Ron’s Amazing Stories. Featured Story - The Martian Chronicles Our featured story is a radio adaptation of The Martian Chronicles. There were many of these throughout the golden age of radio, but most took individual chapters from the book and presented it as a complete story. What we have is the entire book in 30 minutes. Sounds impossible? Well ...it should be, but they did it. The production comes from the OTR series Dimension X and comes complete with the original commercials and radio spots. So, what we really have is a time machine taking us back to August 18th, 1950. Other Stories Include - The Tulip Murder, The Martian Chronicles - Audiobook, The Ghoulish Caller, My Walk On The Beach, Grandma's Rocking Chair, and The Martian Chronicles - Story. • RAS #502 - The 1904 Olympics
On today it is one of those shows where you are going to hear a lot of stuff. We have no less than 12 different tales that range from ghost stories, to science fiction, to a memorial tale and even a brand new Johnny Is It True. We will even visit the 1904 olympiad. So sit back, enjoy, because I think you're in for something completely different. Featured Story - The 1904 Olympics Well as you know these past two weeks we have been watching the 2020 Olympics from Japan. Something that I have really been enjoying. America’s first Olympics may have been its worst, or at least its most bizarre. Held in 1904 in St. Louis, the games were tied to that year’s World’s Fair, which celebrated the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase. The Olympics’ signal event, the marathon, was conceived to honor the classical heritage of Greece and underscore the connection between the ancient and modern. But from the start, the 1904 marathon was less showstopper than a sideshow, a freakish spectacle that seemed more in keeping with the carnival atmosphere of the fair than the mood of the games. The outcome was so scandalous that the event was nearly abolished for good. On this podcast, we feature that story and you are not going to believe it. Other Stories Include - The Needle Murder, Grand Theft Astro, Why don’t people believe, Don’t Touch My Batman Bank, My Rose Recorder, The Test Rocket, Johnny Is It True - Facebook Edition, Last Scene Of All, and The Marathon of The 1904 Olympics. • RAS #501 - Rocket Ship
On we have a pretty odd collection of tales that range from strange music that has no source, to a haunting train whistle, and then a presence that really loves its pink shed. Our featured story comes from the OTR series Light’s Out. Now, I’ll bet you think it is going to be horror. You would be wrong! It is a science fiction classic titled Rocket Ship. So press that play button and enjoy the show. Featured Story - Rocket Ship Our featured story comes from the classic OTR series Lights out. We take a trip to the moon and back, but not a happy one. This story is a real departure for the folks at Lights Out. The creators, In this case, Arch Obler, rarely did science fiction. The program leaned more towards horror and suspense. The good news is that this really shows just how talented the production crew of Lights Out was. Our story is titled Rocket Ship and it first aired on July 28th, 1947.  Other Stories Include - No Leg To Stand On, Riders of the Purple Sage, The Music Never Stops, The Train Whistle, Little Pink Shed, and Rocket Ship Ron’s Amazing Stories Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at   and - Good Treats for your dog to eat.
