Celebrating the Summer Solstice, or Midsummer, is a common theme among many pagan faiths and traditions. Though it may have many names, Midsummer is often seen as the midpoint between the dark and the light half of the year. At Midsummer, we encounter the longest day of the year and, after, we start our descent into the darker half of the year. Midsummer is celebrated on different days in the northern and southern hemispheres because it is an astronomical event.

When we think of pagan resources or witchcraft resources, we normally think about content specific to those two topics. Now, though, I realize that there are several non-pagan resources that I use on a regular basis. It is important to understand that all of your resources don't have to be witchy books, witchy apps, witchy websites, and witchy content. Learning how to use the resources at our disposal - pagan or not - can help you be a better and more well-rounded witch.

Correspondences within witchcraft can be personal or common. Where do they come from? Who decides the correspondences for herbs, candles, and colors within witchcraft?

One thing I wrestled with at the beginning of my studies of witchcraft and magick was just who decided the correspondences? Who decided that clear quartz is a good crystal for just about everything? Who decided that lavender corresponds with calming? Today, I wanted to talk about witchcraft correspondences and where they come from. I discuss the animist perspective, the psychological perspective, and the medicinal perspective. This by no means is a comprehensive dive into correspondences, but I hope it gives you a chance to think about your own witchcraft correspondences and how you use them in your craft.

I like to use defensive magick techniques to protect from unwanted energies in and around my home, unwanted energetic influences when I'm out in public, and a way to protect my home and family from outside influences. Defensive magick doesn't have to protect against just energetic or magickal influence, either. It can be used to protect against physical harm or damage as well.

I was inspired by two people on YouTube (links below) and their discussion about their deities and their experiences. They mentioned something that really inspired me - and that's the fact that many pagans and witches don't discuss their personal experiences with their Gods, Goddesses, and other beings. This could be from fear, hesitation, or just because they don't want to. 

I believe that sharing our personal experiences with our spiritual path - including the gods we work with - can be a learning experience for both ourselves and others. It is important for me to share my experiences because I'm all about the education and spread of knowledge. 

Today, I want to share my thoughts on this as well as my experience working with and worshiping the Irish Goddess Brighid.
