Route 42

Welcome Home! No matter where you’ve gone this past week, or where you lay your head, when the children of God (like you and me) gather in the house of God (like this church) around the table of Jesus – even if this is your first time here – we are God’s family, and this is Home. This Week: Putting a Face to the Glory of God

In the church season of Advent this year we thought about how Jesus came to us as the Child in Bethlehem’s manger to bring us grace, hope, healing, and peace. On this last Advent Sunday for this year we hear the message of the prophet Isaiah “Unto US a child is born” and of the angels “Peace on Earth, good will to all!” BONUS: Today’s Gospel lesson is brought to us by our Sunday School.

During this season of Advent we’ve moved from thinking about individual repentance (week 1) to the restoring work of Jesus (week 2). Today (December 11) we’re invited by Isaiah 35 to focus completely on the restoration and renewal that Jesus brings to the whole creation - and especially to His people suffering the effects of sin.

Today (December 4) is the Second Sunday in the Season of Advent. In one of his hymns, Martin Luther wrote “O dearest Jesus, Holy Child! / Make thee a bed, soft, undefiled / Within my heart that it may be / a quiet chamber set for Thee!” That’s our theme this week - preparing our hearts for the coming of the Christ Child!
