Martin Luther, in his Small Catechism writes, "God creates, preserves, and protects our life. He is caring and compassionate toward all He has made, and He calls us to be so also." Join us as Pastor Mark continues our summer series on the Ten Commandments, a as he preaches on the 5th Commandment, "you shall not murder."

As we continue our series, "Written in Stone," we will see how the Commandments shift our focus from loving God to loving others. In the Fourth Commandment, God begins this new focus by calling us to give respect and honor to every form of authroity He has established. Join us as we look specifically at our parents and consider how we are called to honor and respect them as though we were honoring and respecting God Himself.

The Third Commandment reads, "Remember the Sabbath by keeping it holy." Does it mean that we simply relax and do nothing? Or is it a day of service? And does it have to be on a Sunday...or a Saturday?

Everybody has a name and names are important. A person's name can represent their reputation, their character, as well as their authority. For those same reasons, we are commanded to take God's name very seriously and not misuse it. As we continue our series, "Written in Stone", we will look at the need to treat God's holy name with awe and reverence instead of using it thoughtlessly or carelessly.

Out of love for us, God gave us the Ten Commandments. They are the foundation to healthy, God-centered ways to live as His children. It is true that there are many named gods that people uselessly worship. So, God begins the Ten Commandments by establishing the fact that we are to worship Him above all things. That makes sense, but Luther reminds us that, "whatever you confide in, that is your god.' Whatever we count on to give us meaning and value in life, that is our god." Things like time, money, and success can become idols.

Our ability to trust another person is based on how much we know them. Of course, to know them, we need to have a relationship with them. The Holy Spirit empowers us to know God and enjoy a relationship with Him through faith. This relationship is strengthened by the many promises made within His Word - promises that we can trust Him to keep. God promises to give us provision, guidance, encouragement, strength, and wisdom. He also promises His protection during life's storms. Join us as Pastor Mark kicks off our next sermon series titled, "No One Greater", as we look to Psalm 121 and explore God's protection.

Relationships are complicated and, because of sin, can become damaged creating a wedge between two individuals. As we wrap up our series, "The High Road", we will once again look at God's Word to learn how to reconcile relationships that maybe in conflict.

When people are unkind or cruel to us, we can respond with a bitter reply. God encourages a better way. It comes from replacing a root of bitterness with a root of love, strength and victory.
