The Nats started off the post All-Star break portion of the season with an 8-5 victory on Friday night over the visiting Reds. Mark & Al begin with Juan Yepez, who hit his first homer in a Washington uniform. Yepez has had at least one hit in all 11 games since getting called up from AAA-Rochester.
(10:00) James Wood singled but did strike out three times in the victory. Wood already has 23 Ks and has gone eight straight games without drawing a walk.
(18:00) Patrick Corbin earned the win after only allowing one run in six innings of work. Corbin has five quality starts this season, which is as many as MacKenzie Gore.
(22:00) Jose A. Ferrer, fresh off a long stint on the IL, was given mop up duty in the 9th, but could not properly corral the seven run lead. Derek Law relieved him, but Kyle Finnegan was then needed to nail down the final out.
(28:00) Josiah Gray will have season ending UCL surgery next week. He will likely now miss the bulk of two seasons and he has not pitched since early April.
(38:00) Mike Rizzo met with the media before the game and had interesting comments regarding the possibility of trading Finnegan and Lane Thomas before the July 30th deadline.
