Robin and Kate have a brief catch up before diving into talking to Tara Dower about her incredible FKT run along the Appalachian Trail in the US. She ran 2,197 miles in 40 days, 18 hours, and 6 minutes, averaging over 50 miles every single day. They talk about her recovery since, her running career before, and the trail itself; for us two Brits it was a source of fascination to learn about sharing the trail with animals that could potentially eat you!
Could you run for 52 days in a row? Could you run 60 miles on every one of those days? Could you run 3,100 miles in those 52 days? That's what 15 runners are attempting at the Sri Chimney Self Transcendence 3,100 race in New York right now. They started on 30th August and will keep going every single day until 20th October. Listen to Adrian describe the runners and the race.
Kate chats to Damian Hall for a general catch up on what he's being doing, most notably another successful Tor des Geants run and his disappointment in their new sponsor Ford.
Dan Lawson broke the National 3 Peaks Challenge by foot in August when he summited the 3 Peaks and ran between each of them. We chat about Nomadic Saunas (need one), recovery, and the experience both of them had during this record breaking run. Darren finishes off reciting one of the first odes he made and sent to Dan after his Lejog record - which turned out to be the start of a firm friendship and, ultimately, the seeds of the Green Runners.
Mike Duggan is the Co-ordinator of the ITRA Olympic Trail Running Working Group who is trying to get trail running admitted as a sport into the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics. This means getting a lot of people into the same room on the same agenda but the thought of our sport joining the Olympics is very exciting. We discuss the many loops that must be jumped through to achieve this goal. We also discuss the exciting possibilities for Virtual Reality and digital media to allow more people to spectate what would ordinarily be a remote sport, and in a more sustainable way.
Kate chats to Keri about her new book, Running Challenges, and her business Girls on Hills, who were created to empower women with the skills and confidence necessary to become independent in the mountain environment.
David Roche won the classic Leadville 100 last weekend - not only did he break the record by 16 minutes but it was his debut 100 miler. Kate and Sam Hill talk to him to find out how he did it.
We chat to Robyn Cassidy about her recent win at Lakeland 100; about her nutrition problems and answers with Precision Fuel and Hydration and about her training. As a physiotherapist, she knows how important strength training is and we discuss the different aspects people need to consider when training over different terrains and distances.
Apologies for Robyn's audio - I have tried to clean it up but she does sound like she's talking out of a tin can!
Kate and Robin Bush talk to Hayden Arrowsmith, UK Event Director for UTMB, currently Ultra-Trail Snowdonia and Arc of Attrition.
Hayden talks about his background and how he came to work for UTMB, and his obvious passion for putting on great events. They discuss the future of the races and the possibility of further events for UTMB in the UK.
