Welcome to Season 2! Ummm...uh...yeah...it's the 4:20 episode with Malcolm MacKinnon, Photographer and Editor for High Times Magazine in it's glory days. It's a cue the 500mg gummie-puck and THC infused seltzer episode...and all that that implies.
From a time when it was an outlaw thing to do, to photograph the country's best pot for the centerfold in High Times Magazine! Malcolm was editor in the magazine's marijuana hey-dey, it was the bible of the counter-culture for nearly 50 years. But like all things, time, money, and, uh...never mind. We get a serious contact high from the inside out with this candid walk down memory lane. What can you say, the grass is always green, but not necessarily greener in a place like that. You be the judge on this revealing episode - too good to give away with bulletpoints! Oh - we did at least remember dig deep into the connection between High Times and Rush. And Malcolm shares many other details from his fascinating career as a traveling pot journalist.
The wheel gives us Stick It Out off 1993’s Counterparts. Again, the voting turns out in surprising ways, this time with Schatz pulling a double take move, and as we know, that's always a treat for this weekly fanboy-fest.
We name-drop usual suspects like rushvault.com, and we thought fondly of Ed from rushisaband.com. We even give a shout-out to our sponsors Danforth & Pape, and podcastle.ai in an even betterer treatment than last time. More games, merriment, and pointing you all to this list of current links, it's...

In another neposode, Chaz and Schatz welcome Gary “G-Mann” Baumann of Steel Revenge, the band he’s in with Chaz. Gary has a long history playing bass and guitar in bands in and around Northern Colorado for most of his life, and has the stories to go with it.
Join us for a great journey back through the glory days of the Colorado rock scene from the inside out. Gary waxes nostalgic dropping some pretty big names, as well as a few brain farts along the way. We hear about:
- Turning a family cow into brand new Epiphone
- Being a roadie and sound guy in and around Denver
- Being left a schedule one present from the opening act that ROCKED anything he’d ever seen
- Opening for rock’s biggest Canadian trio in our humble cow-town in the late 70’s
- “Making $14 the hard way” as a working musician in Denver in the 70’s, 80’s, and today
- Being the guy who owns the PA, and all that implies
- Making music with family, friends, and world-class musicians in the Rocky Mountain west
Gary's fond memories of fun and good times make for a down-home evening of well-spun rememberences of a music scean more active than you might think from the outside looking in.
The wheel gives us Kid Gloves off 1984’s Grace Under Pressure, a song we generally knew, er...some of us...one of us at least. The voting turns out in surprising ways, which is always a treat for this weekly fanboy-fest.
We name-drop usual suspects like rushvault.com, and we thought fondly of Ed from rushisaband.com. We even give a shout-out to ol’ Martin Popoff, and we give our sponsors Danforth & Pape, and podcastle.ai a new treatment. More games, merriment, and...

In another RushRash exclusive, Chaz n' Schatz corral that 'ol One-Wheelin' Rush Rat - The OG RatFather Himself, Lance "TheShred" Kasten of Overtime Angels.
Overtime Angels is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 2014 inspired by the generosity, humanity and philanthropy shown by the members of RUSH. They are committed to helping individuals, families and small organizations who do not meet the criteria for assistance from larger social service agencies. Overtime Angels does this by providing financial assistance to help those in crisis.
Lance is also of The First Guard, the Order of Rushians known as The Rush Rats, as in...yes, those fans from way, way back, who've been there, done that, and know you had to look it up!
From what it's like to see Rush 99 times, to putting together little "celebrations" with a few hundred of your closest friends, to producing events, to getting to work with some of the craziest, most fun-loving, and passionate Rushians from all over the world helping others in the name of the band! Not only that, but some pretty average fan experiences involving:
- Chicken suits and wheelboards
- Off duty cops & donuts
- Air-drumming and competitive air-guitar for fun and profit
- What it's like to help people get a leg up
- Having Donna Halper hang at your house party in the day
- Being there with Ed Stenger of RushIsABand.com when RushCon was that thing they couldn't leave alone
- Working with people like Doanne Perry and Taylor Hawkins to get personal stories about Neil to put on A Night For Neil
- What it was like to put out the just released commerative album and t-shirt A Night For Neil
The wheel gives us Scars off 2009's Presto...probably because we all just love Presto so much! (The wheel has it's ways...)
We name-drop usual suspects like rushvault.com, and we spoke fondly of Ed from rushisaband.com, our sponsor, Danforth & Pape, and podcastle.ai! Games, meriment...

In a RushRash exclusive, Chaz n' Schatz land an exclusive with vocalist Rocky Kuner and guitarist Ben King of Southern California's Mood Lifters Tribute to Rush just ahead of their disembarking for a full-on "half-a-smily-face" tour of the land Down Under, 5 cities in 5 days!
We talk what it's been like since Rocky joined the band and how they continue their journey from local SoCal Rush Tribute to all-out Global Rush rash super-spreader, spreading the rash far and wide! Moods were elevated:
- What it was like going to Scotland, playing Rushfest with jetlag, other musicians, and someone else’s equipment.
- How Ben discovered Rush through his sister in a time when MTV actually played music and how Rocky found Rush through her parents mix tapes.
- Rocky's reaction to being dragged to Rush concerts by her Dad and Uncle at age 12.
- How Mood Lifters and Rocky found each other after Rocky left YYNOT and how the band has gone to the next level since they’ve all joined creative forces.
- The gear-up to do something Rush didn’t even do…play a five city tour of Australia this month.
- The market for Rocky's hand-written set lists and how her biggest fans are closest to the heart!
- How the band is able to create such high-energy shows that has everyone singing and participating.
- How the band is rounded out by Mat Miranda on drums, who couldn’t be with us.
And in an ongoing pattern of wheel-based shenanigans, we spin a track with no vocals, Leave That Thing Alone, off 1993’s Counterparts. Rocky and Ben really get into the music and Ben helps us discern the “Celtic flavor” in Al’s solo. Music appreciation and love of all the nuance, magic, energy, and intensity of multiple time signatures, key changes, and notes, notes, notes!!
We name-drop (or at least think to mention in the show notes...) some of our usual suspects of our own like rushvault.com, and we are always thinking about rushisaband.com, and our fantabulous sponsor, Danforth & Pape, and podcastle.ai! And witness the first dual-attempt at playing Schatz’s Scratch List - a tongue twisting good time was had by all - so now get out there and scratch that itch to hear Rush music with the Mood Lifters or any of these other bands live:

In another weird convergence of events and a crossing of the ethereal streams, Chaz and Shatz welcome Greg “Wolfie” Wolfe and Scotzo Monroe, Chaz’ co-hosts on the Regarding…Series of podcasts, where the hosts listen to albums so the listener doesn’t have to. The show has featured Lulu by Lou Reed and Metallica, and Roger Waters’ Dark Side of the Moon Redux. And since Chaz is technically a guest on this episode, Schatz takes the lead seat. Join us as we:
The wheel gives us a song fitting for our guests as we spin Freeze (Part IV of Fear) of 2002’s Vapor Trail. It's a disorienting song that shouldn’t work, from weird chords, crazy polyrhythms, and a lyric sheet that’s got our eyes wide like a deer in the headlights. Freeze (Part IV of Fear) (FFS), this is a challenging song that's right up our guests...ally.

No effin way, Chaz n Schatz score an exclusive RushRash interview with Definitely The Real Alex Lifeson! Seriously, you read that right, only here on RushRash.
Who on earth would go around impersonating the likeness of a definitely real Rush celebrity, and not expect a visit from the men in their little white suits...well, this other guy Tony Binns is the guy. Meet Canadian writer, comedian, dungeon master, garden gnome, and demon slayer Tony Binns from Calgary Alberta. We take a whOle deep, penetrating look into his mind Tek-style, looking for the whOle story with why this otherwise normal nerd would create this fake persona that attracts a following of over 1,000 and growing since January. And they get it and all play along nicely...or not. It doesn't matter, he fits right in here, and so we have Definitely The Real Alex Lifeson taking up a permanent seat on the Council of Rushians, given just how certifiably nuts this character really is...
- How all this madness started and how it took on a life of it's own.
- How a transformative social media acknowledgement from "Geddy Lee" turned out to be not quite what Tony expected.
- Being a comedian on the circuit with lots of Rush material...is that like a Dad Joke Toast Master?!
- Building a following in five months and taking your schtick to the next level.
- Growing up nerd and ending up having a great freaking time every day of your adult life thanks to Rush.
We go off the rails on many topics with what's going on in definitely for real this time, the real, real Alex Lifeson's latest track with Today Was Yesterday, My New Low. We sprung a RushRash Case 911 with this one! (More on that later...)
We name-drop some of our usual suspects like rushvault.com, and we are always thinking about rushisaband.com, and our fantabulous sponsor, Danforth & Pape and while we didn't name-drop them this week, we are loving our newest sponsor, podcastle.ai!

Welcome to RushRash, where we like our background music LOUD - It's RUSH! Riddle me this...what do you get when you have 3 of the members of A Farewell to Kings and two RushRashers in the same room? You get a whole lotta New Joisey accents talkin' up our favorite band!
Join Chaz N Schatz as they have a memorable evening with Johnny Vines, Adam Cyran and Aaron Leone of New Jersey's own AF2K Tribute to Rush.
The band may be relatively new, but their love of Rush spans decades. Their meticulous attention to detail, from the music to their instruments, is becoming the stuff of legend. If ever there was a music geeks episode, this is it. We dig deep into the band, their love of Rush and their crazy obsession with gear details!
- The inside scoop on how Johnny has to care for his replica drum kit.
- All the details on Adam's bass collection and what he does with those synths.
- We get a chubby talkin all things guitars with Aaron.
- What it's like launching a tribute band and what it takes to pull off a Rush show.
- Finding singer Zack James on Instagram and never looking back.
- We leave paradise looking like it hosted a 12 hour Destiny 10-year gaming marathon.

Chaz and Schatz take the conversation to wild new levels of geek-dom with thse two Berklee College of Music-trained love birds. From their music school days on through to their most recent experience filming the music video for their rendition of Rush's Witch Hunt, Chaz n Schatz get to know this married musical duo and their Rush-filled lives:
- What's Julie's soul animal and how did it speak to Eric in those early days of their budding romance?
- What's it like being married to a Rushian and in Central Pennsylvania's Voted Number One Tribute Band?
- The love and dedication they share for recreating the music of Rush.
- The importance of tweaking and authenticity for the way both Eric and Julie approach their instruments.
- What it was like working with legendary Rush producer Terry Brown and Rush album cover artist and keyboard soundscape artist Hugh Smye on SF's version of Witch Hunt.
- We get to the true origins of the fire that inspired Solar Federation's formation.
- A special mystery guest breaks in over our technical difficulties and results in our first ever TWO PART EPISODE!! (We didn't even get to Chain Lightning in Part 1!!)

RushFest Brazil
Rush news, general nonsensical disorderly conduct, lack of regard for correctness or truth, and reckless endangerment of your whole-brain. This is the only podcast dedicated to increasing opioid release in your anterior insula, your anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), and your posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), in addition to the basal ganglia and the thalamus...and all that that implies.
Some thick North Jersey accents and they give you some royalty-free sound effects and movie clips too - what more do you need to indulge your urge to scratch?! Join us - you know where to scratch - blah, blah...RushRash.
