Our mini-series devoted to the live action films of Wes Anderson continues with his sophomore effort, the 1998 cult classic, Rushmore.
The failure of Bottle Rocket lead director Wes Anderson to something more important than financial success: a “cool” factor. After a screening of the film for friends of James L. Brooks, everyone wanted Wes Anderson’s next movie. Luckily, Anderson and Wilson could ablige with a script about two Tycoons, one of business and the other of extracurricular activities. Once Disney stepped in to greenlight the film, Wes Anderson was finally united with two of his constant collaborators: actors Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman. But did Rushmore ultimately fair any better than its predecessor?
Joining Nick and Scott to talk about elaborate stage plays, unrequited love triangles, and generational friendship is writer Austin Yoder.
