  • RYM 2016 HSFL2 Jonathan McGuire Day 3

“Identity Crisis or Identity Deception? When Humanity & Holiness Collide”
    Teacher: Jonathan McGuire

Who are you? What makes you you? Can you be and do whatever makes you happy? Can you love whomever and whatever you want? Do you choose your identity, or is it forced on you from birth? As Christians, what is our identity, what choice do we have in the matter, and how does grace play a role? Does God love me if I identify as a girl even if I was born a boy, identify as black but was born white, or feel like an adult in a teenage body (or a teenager in an adult body)? What does my identity have to do with my humanity, and what does my humanity have to do with God's holiness? Identity may be a new topic in TV, politics, schools, and 26 churches, shaping everything we think, feel, and do, but the answers are old. We sense that who we are and why are vital, yet the voices screaming into the debate are confusing. These issues aren't easy, but clarity and certainty are possible through Christ. This class will address the issues around Identity and provide answers from Scripture on who we are, how we know, and what difference it makes one way or the other.

“Freedom from the Paralysis of Doubt: How Can I Have the Assurance of Salvation?”
    Teacher: Joey Stewart

The most miserable person in the world is the one who doubts the certainty of his/her salvation. “Am I really a Christian?” “Can I be sure that God has saved me?” “Is it possible for me to lose my salvation?” “Is there really forgiveness when I keep struggling with the same sin over and over again, and it seems like I just can’t give it up?” If you’ve ever asked any or all of those questions, if your doubts are haunting you to the point that you feel spiritually paralyzed, if you want to know the true freedom and confidence that the gospel DOES provide, then this class is for you. • RYM 2016 HSFL2 Ben Griffith Day 1
    “Idolators Anonymous”
    Teacher: Ben Griffith

We are all idolators. You may not worship a little statue on your
bookshelf every night (if you do, we need to talk), but chances
are there's a goal, a person, a desire, or something else that has
taken on god-like proportions in your life. Idols are good things or
bad things that we turn into ultimate things; they're "counterfeit
gods." We're very good at making them, and they're very good at
ruining us. A Christian writer once said, "the secret to change is
to identify and dismantle the counterfeit gods of your heart." Join
us as we discover how true this is, and how the Gospel is good
    news for idolators.

  • RYM 2016 HSFL2 Adam Comeens Day 4

    “Knowing the Unknowable God”
    Teacher: Adam Comeens

Taylor and Ed sang it best: “I just wanna know you better, know you better, know you better now….” While couples certainly need to know each other well before entering a relationship, worshipers of God need to know the Creator even more vitally than couples need to know each other. Why? Knowing who God is and His attributes affects how we live on this side of eternity. A.W. Pink said, “An unknown God can neither be trusted, served, nor worshiped.” If this is true, and if we were made to do exactly those things, then knowing God becomes extremely important. This elective will explore the attributes of the Creator. We will discuss God’s perfection, His knowledge, His supremacy, and His holiness among other attributes with the goal of encouraging you to greater faithfulness in serving and worshiping God.

  • RYM 2016 HSFL2 Jacob Morrison Day 4

“Living as a Christian with Anxiety & Depression”
    Teacher: Jacob Morrison

Have you ever experienced that feeling? The feeling of utter despair? You feel alone or misunderstood. It is like you are drowning, and everyone is throwing you anvils instead of a life jacket. Here is the thing: everyone is going to experience the feeling of anxiety or depression at some point in their life. So how should you respond when it happens to you? How do you 24 respond when it happens to your friends? The good news is that the Bible offers more than the never helpful comment, “Just don’t be anxious.” In fact, Scripture shows us that part of living in a post-Fall world is struggling with these issues. Come and learn how we as Christians should think about these complex issues, provide help to those who are suffering, and see what the Bible says about giving hope to those in the midst of sorrow.
