  • RYM 2016 HSCO David Byrnie Day 2

“What’s the Big Deal About the Bible?”
    Teacher: David Birnie

Do you have an amazing relationship with God where you wake up each morning and can’t wait to open the Bible? If so, you should probably go to a different awesome elective. But if you don’t, then come find out how we can reorient our understanding of Scripture. While we are at it, we can learn a few ways of how to approach the Bible. In Matthew 4, Jesus quotes the Old Testament by saying, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” We have these words recorded in the “Word” of God. Scripture is food for hungry hearts. If you have a hungry heart or want one, come join us!

  • RYM 2016 HSCO Bryan Villarreal Day 3

    “The Invitations of Jesus”
    Teacher: Bryan Villarreal

What will following Jesus cost you? Will it cost you friends, reputation, and “likes”? Of course it could, but Jesus wouldn’t offer you something different if it wouldn’t satisfy that for which you really long. Jesus invites us out of uncertainty and into the truth, out of anxiety and into joy, out of isolation and into community and purpose. He invites us to give up the tireless pursuit of image, approval, and the perfect experience so that we can find the life and the purpose for which He made us…a life and purpose that are completely contrary to our culture, yet are more life-renewing than anything the world is offering. Come join us as we explore the liberating invitations of Jesus.

  • RYM 2016 MSTX Joe Deegan Day 3

“Why Are the Opinions of Others Such a Big Deal to Me?”
    Teacher: Joe Deegan

Do you ever find yourself doing anything anybody tells you to do just because you want them to like you? Do you ever laugh at jokes you don’t get just because you want to fit in with the crowd? Do you ever walk into a room and suddenly feel like every eye is on you and you alone? Have I asked too many questions? Is this paragraph too long? Wait, are you still going to take my class? Okay, I obviously care a lot about what you think of me. But I have a feeling that many of you care just as much about what others think of you. Good news—we’ll deal with some of these issues together in this class and talk about why and how God wants to turn our thoughts outward, away from ourselves.
